1 The Early Ministry & Selection of Disciples
Lesson 6

2 Jesus Healing A Man With A Withered Hand
Matthew 12:9-14 Mark 3:1-6 Luke 6:6-11 Jesus Healing A Man With A Withered Hand Jesus again questioned regarding what was “lawful” on the Sabbath … for what purpose? Determine how to please God? Rather, “so that they might accuse Him.”

3 Jesus Healing A Man With A Withered Hand
Matthew 12:9-14 Mark 3:1-6 Luke 6:6-11 Jesus Healing A Man With A Withered Hand Jesus’ argument: Would you rescue an animal who fell into a pit on the Sabbath? Of course they would! Who is more “valuable,” a man or that animal? Of course the human being! (Matthew 6:26; 10:31)

4 Jesus Healing A Man With A Withered Hand
Matthew 12:9-14 Mark 3:1-6 Luke 6:6-11 Jesus Healing A Man With A Withered Hand Jesus then healed the man’s hand … and the Pharisee’s response? They “conspired (plotted, NKJV) as to how they might destroy Him.” We might say they formed a special investigative committee to look into the matter.

5 Multitudes Healed By The Sea
Matthew 12:15-21 Mark 3:7-12 Luke 6:1-5 Multitudes Healed By The Sea Jesus, knowing their hearts (John 2:25) withdrew from Jerusalem and “many followed Him, and He healed them all.” Jesus warned them not to tell who He was. Why? (John 7:8; Mark 1:45)

6 Multitudes Healed By The Sea
Matthew 12:15-21 Mark 3:7-12 Luke 6:1-5 Multitudes Healed By The Sea Matthew says this warning fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah 42:1-3. How so? Key words, “HE WILL NOT QUARREL, NOR CRY OUT; NOR WILL ANYONE HEAR HIS VOICE IN THE STREETS.” What was the effect of those who proclaimed Jesus’ miracles on His opposition? The more they spoke, the more the multitudes followed Him, the more the hatred of the Pharisees and the rulers of the Jews intensified. It was not yet His time.

7 Multitudes Healed By The Sea
Matthew 12:15-21 Mark 3:7-12 Luke 6:1-5 Multitudes Healed By The Sea Matthew says this warning fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah 42:1-3. How so? Key words, “A BATTERED REED HE WILL NOT BREAK OFF, AND A SMOLDERING WICK HE WILL NOT PUT OUT, UNTIL HE LEADS JUSTICE TO VICTORY.” Jesus sought the (spiritually) afflicted and downcast and sought to offer them hope.

8 The Selection Of The 12 Apostles
Matthew 10:1-4 Mark 3:13-19 Luke 6:12-16 The Selection Of The 12 Apostles What preceded Jesus’ selection? He went off to the mountain to pray all night. Luke 6:12 He determined those who He “wanted” (determined, resolved, chosen, preferred). Mark 3:13 He then “called” these 12 to Himself. Acts 2:39

9 The Selection Of The 12 Apostles
Matthew 10:1-4 Mark 3:13-19 Luke 6:12-16 The Selection Of The 12 Apostles What was the purpose for these chosen 12? Mark 3:13-14 “So that they would be with Him …” The need to watch and listen. (Acts 1:22) “… He could send them out (Greek: apostello) to preach (be a herald) …” Luke 6:13, “He also named as apostles” (Apostle: one set apart and sent forth “on service or with a commission” (Vine)) “… to have authority to cast out demons.”
