3 Key concepts According to Bernoulli’s principle, how is fluid pressure related to the motion of a fluid? What are some applications of Bernoulli’s principle

4 Key Terms Bernoulli’s principle Lift

5 Try this Hold a piece of paper by the corners just below your bottom lips. Blow across the paper? What happened?

6 Pressure and moving fluids
Fluid motion: Flows from high pressure to low pressure. Bernoulli’s Principle: the faster a fluid moves, the less pressure the fluid exerts. As the speed of a moving fluid increases, the pressure within the fluid decreases. Think about the paper experiment…the air above the paper moves, but the air below the paper does not. The moving air has less pressure than the still air, and the still air pushes the paper up.

7 Applying Bernoulli’s principle
Bernoulli’s principle helps explain how planes fly. It also helps explain why smoke rises up a chimney, how an atomizer works, and how a flying disk glides through the air. Objects in flight Many object are designed to capture the still air. Lift: an upwards force Airplanes have curved wings that have a slant. Atomizers, chimneys, and Frisbees work with this principle
