WE ALSO LEARNED ABOUT 15% OF THE STUDENTS NEED MORE INTENSIVE SUPPORT IN ORDER TO EXHIBIT MORE POSITIVE BEHAVIORAL CHANGES.
AND ABOUT 5% WILL REQUIRE HIGHLY INTENSIVE INTERVENTIONS FOR A PERIOD OF TIME IN ORDER TO CHANGE BEHAVIORS TO MORE ACCEPTABLE ONES.

THESE ARE EXAMPLES OF 2 SCHOOLS IN OTHER COUNTIES IMPLEMENTING PBIS
SHADY SPRING REDUCED OFFICE DISCIPLINE REFERRALS (ODRS) BY 55% SINCE IMPLEMENTING PBIS
WESTERN HEIGHTS REDUCED OFFICE REFERRALS BY 53% SINCE PBIS WAS IMPLEMENTED

9. CHARLES COUNTY DATA
THIS GRAPH REPRESENTS THE DATA WE HAVE COLLECTED FROM 3 EXEMPLAR SCHOOLS.
THEIR REDUCTION IS A COMBINED AVERAGE OF 36% IN ONE YEAR.

10. JENIFER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
WHEN WE BREAK DOWN THE DATA BY INDIVIDUAL SCHOOLS WE HAVE SEEN A 73% REDUCTIONS OF OFFICE REFERRALS AT JENIFER SINCE IMPLEMENTATION OF PBIS
IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT TO KNOW THAT AT THE SAME TIME JENIFER’S POPULATION HAS INCREASED BY 22% WHILE OFFICE REFERRALS FOR BEAHVIORS HAVE DECREASED 73%

11. JC PARKS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
At JC Parks they had a 50% reduction in office referrals in one year. Their goal was 20%. As you can see, they achieve well over their one year goal.
JC Parks’s student population also increased by 7 % while office referrals for BEHAVIORS decreased 50%.

12. JOHN HANSON MIDDLE SCHOOL
John Hanson ALSO REDUCED REFERRALS BY 54% .
(In addition, John Hanson is showing a similar trend of improvement as Jenifer over time since the implementation of PBIS which results in 33% over two year period. This positive trend is encouraging for the potential to achieve similar results as in Jenifer.)
(First year improvement is slower than 2nd and then it gradually improves with time, cumulative, not that every year we are going to see 50%s but cumulative you do)

13. THESE SCHOOLS REPORT: An Increase in Community and Parent Satisfaction
An Increase in Staff Satisfaction
A Reduction in Staff Absenteeism
A Reduction in Teacher Transfer Requests and Turnover
Increased Administrative Time Spent in Classrooms and Assisting With Academics
Increased Administrative Time for Staff Support
What we are observing with PBIS programs statewide and we
are now observing PERSONALLY in Charles County is that
parents feel that school is a better place to send their children
and staff feel that school is a better place to work in.

14. PROJECT TARGET Is a 5 Year Collaborative Project With:
Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE)
Sheppard Pratt Health Systems
Johns Hopkins University
We also have a partnership with the Maryland State Department of Education to develop an evaluation procedure of PBIS. These agencies are identifying and evaluating the tools of the why and how of PBIS success.

15. GOALS: More PBIS Schools in Charles County Regional Training
Develop Partnerships With the Community
Broaden Community Awareness
We would like to train all schools in Charles County.
We will need to develop Regional Training because it is getting too large for MSDE and it is getting very expensive.
In order to be successful we need to develop connections with the community and receive more support.
We are beginning to share our success with some organizations. We just presented to the La Plata Rotary Club about three weeks ago and you may have noticed the Maryland Independent Article FEW WEEKS AGO.
