About 500,000 Native Americans lived in this area Hunted many different animals Those along the seashore fished and gathered shellfish

3 Algonquian Tribes Lived across the mid-western and northeastern part of the United States Hunted and Fished Mohegan, Pequot, Narragansett, Wampanoag, Massachuset, Micmac, Ojibwe, Chippewa, Lenape, Nanticoke

4 Algonquian Life Lived in villages of a few hundred people
Moved to where food was plentiful in summer Lived in temporary homes in summer Lived in longhouses in winter

5 The Iroquois Enemies of the Algonquian
Competed with Algonquian for food and resources Included the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Seneca, and Cayuga

6 The Iroquois Lived in longhouses in large villages

7 The Iroquois Women Held a lot of power Helped choose leaders
