1 Cellular Transport Unit
Passive Transport = movement of substances across the cell membrane without any input of energy by the cell INNER LIFE: 3 mins: 1 min, 27 sec

2 Passive Transport

3 Types 1) Diffusion = movement of molecules from high to low (concentration) - driven by the concentration gradient - spreads out evenly till dynamic equilibrium is reached

4 Diffusion

5

6 2) Osmosis = diffusion of water

7 How did it go with the sub?
Grade the sub from 1-10 Grade yourself from 1-10 (very well behaved)

8 Do Now: what do you remember?
What is passive transport? Does passive transport go with the concentration gradient or against? List two types of passive transport which we learned so far Define each type

9 3) Facilitated Diffusion
= move molecules across the cell membrane through carrier/transport proteins (PASSIVE) - are specific for the type of molecule they help diffuse

10 Facilitated Diffusion (Open Channels)

11 Facilitated Diffusion (Proteins Change Shape)

12 Diffusion vs. Facilitated Diffusion
Diffusion Facilitated Diffusion

13 Active Transport = substances can cross the cell membrane with an input of energy from the cell

14 Active Transport: Protein Pump used to move molecules against concentration gradient

15 1) Endocytosis = the process by which cells ingest “stuff”
- vesicle holds the “stuff”

16 Endocytosis Vesicle

17 2) Exocytosis = the process by which cells release “stuff”
- is essentially the reverse of endocytosis

18 Exocytosis Vesicle

19 Take out your membrane model
On lined paper, using your model: Describe each type (3) of passive transport we learned as it relates to your model Describe each type (3) of active transport we learned as it relates to your model Turn in as classwork grade: if not finished will be HW
