After L’Ouverture was killed, Dessalines led slaves to freedom. Mexico: Beginnings of Revolution 1810 - Father Miguel Hidalgo - Hidalgo made a speech that inspired N.A. and Mestizos to take up arms against Spanish rule. Hidalgo was executed in 1811.

Iturbide led Mexico to independence in 1821. Northern South America Venezuela (1810) New Granada (1821) Bolivia Columbia Ecuador Panama Simon Bolivar “The Liberator” - Educated in Europe Bolivar witnessed reforms of Enlightenment and French Revolution. A believer in equality and liberty, Bolivar liberated Venezuela and New Granada.
