7. Depth of mercy. Can there be mercy still reserved for me
Depth of mercy! Can there be mercy still reserved for me? Can my God his wrath forbear, me, the chief of sinners, spare?
I have long withstood his grace, long provoked him to his face, would not hearken to his calls, grieved him by a thousand falls.
I my Master have denied, I afresh have crucified, oft profaned his hallowed name, put him to an open shame.

Dear Jesus,
Sometimes like the disciples, we just want to know what God requires of us. You explain that what God requires is for us to believe in Jesus whom God sent. Still we waver in our ability to put our whole faith and trust in you. We long for miracles and signs and wonders. We long to see with our own eyes again and again for we easily forget and too often are distracted. .

We praise you for repeatedly assuring us that God gives the true bread from heaven and the true bread gives life to the world. Thank you for being the bread of life. Thank you for promising that whoever comes to you will never go hungry, and whoever believes in you will never be thirsty. Amen.
