8 What will we study? Surah Al-Fatihah, and last 6 Surahs Parts of Salah
Supplications, etc. PLUS grammar rules in every session

9 How will we study? 15 minutes sessions for 27 days
Each Session will have: Qur’an / Hadith Grammar Educational and motivational tips

10 Our Strategy Through these common recitations, we will learn almost 100 words that occur in the Qur’an almost 40,000 times (50% of the words of the Qur’an)

11 Understanding Qur’an vs. Learning Arabic Language
4 Major Differences in our approach

12 No. 1: Smooth Start Start from Salah (Why use any other text, when you want to understand Qur’an)… If I want to teach you french and if I know that you speak something in french for 1 hour, I will say: Let us learn that first! A common sense approach Valid for every Muslim man, woman, old, and young, and even for a child because he is… Before we proceed, let us be clear about the difference between UQ and learning a language. Any language has two dimensions: Reception and Production. Our focus in on reception only. This reduces unnecessary stress on our brain as far as UQ is concerned. Remember! We want to learn it the easiest way. This is the first difference.

13 No. 2: Focus on Listening and Reading
Language Learning Understanding Qur’an Reception Listening Reading Production Speaking - X - Writing

14 No. 3: More Focus on Vocabulary
More focus on Vocabulary (just the way a child learns…) Less focus on grammar; otherwise if we teach the way shown below, people will run away! يُؤمِنُون غائب، جمع، مذكر، مهموز، باب إفعال 2nd Difference: We focus more on vocabulary and much less on grammar, even though we know it. For example:… But if I teach it this way, people will run away within a couple of sessions. فعل مضارع مرفوع بثبوت النون لأنه من الأفعال الخمسة، والواؤ ضمير متصل في محل رفع فاعل

15 No. 4: More Focus on Sarf In Grammar, we give
More emphasis on Sarf (word construction) Less emphasis on Nahw (sentence construction) Because: We are familiar with the topics of Qur’an; We are learning from existing English translations; We are learning to repeat the translation, rather than ‘translation’ itself.

16 Rules of the Short Course

17 Rules … We will learn with love, smiles, and relaxation.
This is a thoroughly interactive short course therefore listen attentively, and participate continuously. Listen interactively, with your HEART and have faith that Allah will teach you. Don’t doubt about yourself. (الرحمن علم القرآن)

18 I teach, I master (more later)
Rules … Remember the gold rule: I listen, I forget. I see, I remember. I practice, I learn. I teach, I master (more later)

19 Repetition of words in Qur’an
Noun (singular + plural forms); Verb (all forms) Repetition in Qur’an 261* كِتَابٌ أَنزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ

20 Today’s Verse

21 كِتَابٌ أَنزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَكٌ لِّيَدَّبَّرُوا آيَاتِهِ
Purpose of Revelation DPPR Ask Evaluate Plan Propagate Understand I+G Check 261* كِتَابٌ أَنزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَكٌ لِّيَدَّبَّرُوا آيَاتِهِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُوْلُوا الْأَلْبَابِ (ص: 29) 382* Just remember two words: Kitab (kutub) and ayat (aayaat). You don’t have to remember the meanings of other words at this time.

22 to you (O! Muhammad, pbuh)
Purpose of Revelation DPPR Ask Evaluate Plan Propagate Understand I+G Check 261* كِتَابٌ أَنزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَكٌ (It is) a book We have revealed it to you (O! Muhammad, pbuh) full of blessings; Just remember two words: Kitab (kutub) and ayat (aayaat). You don’t have to remember the meanings of other words at this time.

23 وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُوْلُوا الْأَلْبَابِ (ص: 29)
Purpose of Revelation DPPR Ask Evaluate Plan Propagate Understand I+G Check 382* لِّيَدَّبَّرُوا آيَاتِهِ so that they ponder its verses وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُوْلُوا الْأَلْبَابِ (ص: 29) and men of understanding receive admonition. Just remember two words: Kitab (kutub) and ayat (aayaat). You don’t have to remember the meanings of other words at this time.

24 Pondering: What & How? You don’t need it while you read a newspaper!
You can’t read a book of science without pondering at each sentence! You can ponder only when you understand! You can not read a book of science like the way you read a newspaper. You need tadabbur at every step. To go deep into the meanings (‘common man areas’) to the extent one can afford. That is called Tadabbur. In spite of the clear mentioning by Allah, we don’t even bother to understand.

25 Before we ponder, Let us look at Our Relationship with Qur’an
DPPR Direct Personal Planned Relevant Direct: For you; it is not Imam reciting or reading the book written by someone Planned: Before even you were born; it is not random Personal: For you Relevant: For today

26 تدبُّر & تذكُّر : A simple method
ASK: Each verse of the Qur’an demands something from us. To fulfill it, start with supplication. EVALUATE (your past day or week in the light of that supplication) Make a PLAN of the next day / week. PROPAGATE the message (The Prophet pbuh said: Convey from me even if it is one verse). You know tadabbur. Now comes tazakkur. This is to relate it with day-to-day life. How can we do that? Here is a simple approach. (There can be other ways too). Try to extract a du’aa from the verse! Why? (i) Each verse has a message on which we have to act. And that act can be started with du’aa. (ii) Sahabah always looked their interest every piece of information. What can I get in it. Example: The Prophet once said: “there are seventy thousand who shall enter Jannah without being taken to account or torment." He also said: They are those who do not make Ruqyah nor seek it, nor perceive omens but keep trust in their Rubb (Allah).'' On this 'Ukashah bin Mihsan stood up and asked: "Pray to Allah to make me one of them.'' The Prophet (PBUH) said, "You are one of them.'' Then another man stood up and asked the same thing. The Prophet (PBUH) answered, "'Ukashah has surpassed you".

27 تدبُّر & تذكُّر : A simple method
DPPR Ask Evaluate Plan Propagate Understand I+G Check After making du’aa, one should check what he did yesterday / last week. And then make plans (if you fail to plan, you plan to fail) for tomorrow. These should be individual as well as collective. And then convey it to others. In the next slide

28 Check! When it comes to group or Fiqh issues or any new idea, then please check with scholars before you mention it to others or implement it. Then what is the real area for common people like us? Relationship with Allah, Following the Prophet pbuh, planning for the hereafter, Zikr, Worship, Morals, Dealings, Dawah, Preaching and Propagation, Ordering good and Stopping evil, Team spirit etc. Check You can surely think about solution to bigger issues but make sure to check with scholars before telling them to anyone or before acting upon them.

29 Example: تدبُّر + تذكُّر
DPPR Ask Evaluate Plan Propagate Understand I+G Check Just Prayer / supplication is not enough. One should evaluate his performance and make plans. Example: Do you think a student who just asks Allah to help him succeed is sincere if he does not follow it up with studies? The real target of this course is: تدبر +تذكر An’amta alaihim: Ambiyaa, siddiqeen, shuhadaa, saliheen; Top: our Prophet pbuh; His path? Practice, Preach, and Organize, and implement (what he can). So, our du’aa should be to ask Allah to help us do them. And then start doing them. If we don’t do this, then our duaa is NOT SERIOUS! (Example: Job seeker who just makes du’aa but does not go out to seek job.)

30 Rights of the Qur’an Believe in it Read it Understand it
Ponder its verses Act upon it Spread it

31 What have we learnt today?
The following words which occur many times in the Qur’an: From Qur’an : كتاب، آيات، لِ Our relationship with Qur’an and an interaction model. With intention, Du’aa, and then support of Allah… NO PROBLEM INSHA-ALLAH.

32 From next session, we will have…
Introduction Today’s lesson Text – 6 min. Grammar – 6 min. Educational / motivational tip. - 2 Alhamdulillah, you have started! Don’t give up!!

33 MashaAllah you have started! Don’t give up!!
Ramadan is the month of Qur’an – Each day we should get closer to it. Don’t fail yourself! Don’t say you don’t have time! Snatch those 15 minutes from your day anyway! Don’t forget to become the ‘student’ of the Prophet pbuh! سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ سُبْحَانَكَ اللهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ نَشْهَدُ أَن لاَّ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ
