2 What is the difference between a fact and an opinion?
A fact can be proven –either to be true or false. An opinion is what someone thinks. It cannot be proven.

My name is Josh. This can be proven to be NOT true. If it can be proven, it is a fact.

We attend school in Tennessee. This can be proven to be true. If it can be proven, it is a fact.

Our school is the best! This cannot be proven to be true or false. If it cannot be proven, and it is what someone thinks, it is an opinion.

20 Fact and Opinion Remember a fact can be proven to be true or false. An opinion is what someone thinks. It cannot be proven. Knowing the difference will help you understand a story better and will lead you to becoming a better reader!
