2 Analyze the relationship between the state and national government:
Federalism – The relationship between State and Federal Governments Concurrent Powers: Powers that both the State & Federal Governments have. (EX: Tax, Make Law, Courts) Purpose of Committee: To divide up the work load

3 Identify: Petition: an appeal, Usually found in a law suit
Referendum: The measure that appears on the ballot. (Special Election) Direct Democracy: system of government giving citizens extraordinary amount of participation in the political process. Recall: Procedure that allows citizens to remove or replace a public officer. (Like an impeachment, but on a state level)

4 Identify: Initiative: Allows citizens to bypass their state legislators by placing proposed statutes on the ballots Recognize the importance of the Supremacy Clause: Federal Law “Supersedes” (takes the place) of state law. Landmark Supreme Court Case? McCulloch v. Maryland

5 Differentiate between Enumerated (expressed) powers and implied powers:
Implied Power: ”Necessary and Proper Clause” – Powers not in the Constitution, but needed. Expressed Power: (Enumerated) Powers that are written in the Constitution. •List powers denied to the states and national government Reserved Power: (10th Amendment) – Powers fall to the States / Remember Federalism 1.National Gov’t 2. State Gov’t

6 Describe the structure of local governments:
Weak Mayor : Strong City Council / Weak Mayor – Council has control of day to day operations of the city. Strong Mayor: Weak City Council / Strong Mayor – Mayor has control of day to day operations of the city. •Name state and local officials: Governor of GA: Nathan Deal Mayor of Douglasville: Rochelle Robinson Lt. Governor of GA: Casey Cagle Sheriff of Douglas County: Tim Pounds Explain the states three branches of government 1.Legislative, 2.Executive, and Judicial List the various services provided by state and local government FIRE / POLICE / SANITATION / HEALTHCARE (CLINIC) / SOCIAL SERVICES EDUCATION / TRANSPORATION / WATER

7 Identify the various sources of revenue received by each level of government TAXES / FINES / FEES / FEDERAL AND STATE FUNDING Explain the powers of state governments: LEG – GEORGIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY / EXEC – GOVERNOR / JUD – STATE COURTS / POPULAR VOTE Identify the powers of local governments: CITY – MAYOR/CITY COUNCIL/COURT | COUNTY – COMMITTEE(COMMISSIONERS)

8 Qualifications to be Governor: 30 YEARS OLD / RESIDENT OF GA FOR 6 YRS / US CITIZEN FOR 15 YEARS.
Identify various roles and responsibilities of an effective American citizen: SERVE YOUR COMMUNITY / CAMPAIGNING / VOTING / SERVING ON A JURY / OBEYING THE LAW / HOLDING PUBLIC OFFICE / PAYING TAXES / ATTENDING SCHOOL / AND RECYCLING!!!!

9 Describe the meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance: PROMISE TO BE TRUE TO YOUR COUNTRY AND ITS LAWS, ITS GOVERNMENT AND THE PEOPLE. THAT WE ARE ONE NATION THAT CAN’T BE TORN APART AND WE HAVE JUSTICE AND FAIRNESS FOR ALL IN A COURT OF LAW.
