2 Bohemian Rhapsody Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide, No escape from reality Open your eyes, Look up to the skies and see, I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy, Because I'm easy come, easy go, Little high, little low, Any way the wind blows doesn't really matter to me, to me Mama, I just killed a man, Put a gun against his head, pulled my trigger now he's dead Mama... life had just begun, But now I've gone and thrown it all away Mamaaaaa oooh, Didn't mean to make you cry, If I'm not back again this time tomorrow, Carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters Too late, my time has come, Sends shivers down my spine, body's aching all the time Goodbye, ev'rybody, I've got to go, Got to leave you all behind and face the truth Mamaaaaa oooh, I don't want to die, I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all I see a little silhouetto of a man, Scaramouche! Scaramouche! will you do the Fandango?! Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very frightening me! Galileo, Galileo Galileo, Galileo Galileo, Figaro - magnifico I'm just a poor boy, nobody loves me He's just a poor boy from a poor family, Spare him his life from this monstrosity! Easy come, easy go, will you let me go Bismilah! No, we will not let you go (Let him go!) Bismilah! We will not let you go (Let him go!) Bismilah! 4 Similarities in Camus's Stranger and Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody?
Quote: Is this the real life- Is this just fantasy- Caught in a landslide- No escape from reality- Meursalt really didn't care much about reality or real life besides any physical experiences. When he couldn't get them while imprisoned, he really started thinking about the meaning of life.

5 Quote: Anyway the wind blows, doesn’t really matter to me, To me Mama, just killed a man, Put a gun against his head, Pulled my trigger, now he’s dead Meursalt shot a man; he could be confessing to his dead mother here.

6 Quote: Too late, my time has come, Sends shivers down my spine- Body’s aching all the time When Meursalt finally realized he is indeed going to die, he literally shivered.

7 Quote: Easy come easy go-,will you let me go- Bismillah! no-,we will not let you go-let him go- Bismillah! we will not let you go-let him go Bismillah! we will not let you go-let me go Will not let you go-let me go Will not let you go let me go No, no, no, no, no, no, no- Mama mia, mama mia, mama mia let me go- Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me, for me- Meursalt was offered a pardon or at least redemption if he started believing in God, but he refused which led to him getting executed.

8 Quote: So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye- So you think you can love me and leave me to die- Oh baby-cant do this to me baby- Just gotta get out-just gotta get right outta here- Nothing really matters, Anyone can see, Nothing really matters-,nothing really matters to me, This is the most interesting part, as Meursalt did get pretty angry at the priest. After letting all of his hatred out, he felt calm and ready to leave this world, as “nothing really matters...”

10 Homework: Due Wednesday
In one typed-page (or handwritten pages), pick a character from one of the stories that we’ve read this year and analyze his/her decisions, actions, and outcomes based on the existentialist way of thinking. Do the existential obstacles of despair, angst, absurdity, alienation, and boredom affect the character? If so, how? If they don’t, then why don’t they, and how has the character avoided them?

12 Essay Checklist Make sure that in your essay you address and explain each of these points. This will help you determine if your character has an existential mindset or not. How does your character define his life (goals/desires) and how will achieving/attaining them bring happiness? What choices does your character make? Are the motives behind the decisions based strictly on getting what they desire or are there other factors such as obligations, responsibilities, or duties which prevent that character from achieving this complete state of happiness or fulfillment? Does ‘despair, angst, absurdity, alienation, and boredom’ affect your character? If so how? If not, why not then? Does your character accept the fact that life is what he chooses to do with it and that any roadblocks are a conscious decision or result of a decision?
