1 Design Defined Avon High School

2 Design Loop The Design Process Identifying problem and Opportunities
Document the Problem Investigation and Research Generating Alternative Solutions Choosing A Solution Developmental Work Modeling and Prototyping Testing and Evaluating Redesigning and Improving Design Loop

3 Graphic Techniques Graphic Techniques are methods that are used to communicate ideas visually. Include: Letters Symbols Sketching Drawing

4 I am mad Text Fonts are used to convey a mood or importance.
Symbols are also used for similar things. I am mad

5 Sketching and Freehand Drawing
Sketching is a simple, visual way of communicating a design. Sketching is done without the use of tools, is done freehand. Example – World’s Tallest Golf Tee.

7 Technical Drawing To give more accuracy to a sketch use a Technical Drawing. Technical Drawing is a method of producing highly accurate drawings using special instruments and tools.

8 Two-Dimensional Drawing
A flat shaped drawing is drawn in Two-Dimensional. When you draw multiple views it is an multiview drawing.

9 Multi View Drawing

10 Three-Dimensional Drawing
Gives a clear picture of the object, more realistic. Three Kinds Oblique = One surface is shown in a straight on view and the other surfaces are at an angle. Isometric = Drawn within a framework of three lines, or an isometric axis. No part is “flat.” Perspective Drawing = Parts of the object that are farther away appear smaller.

11 Oblique Drawing

12 Isometric Drawing

13 Perspective

14 Computer Aided Design Computer Aided Design (CAD) – An important software application that allows people to produce drawings using a computer instead of traditional drawing tools. This is similar to graphic drawings, except with a computer.

15 Multiview

16 Why use CAD? Saves time. Less time is required to update designs.
Designs are more accurate. A CAD system can help identify a design’s strengths and weaknesses.
