1 Critical Reflection Max Maravankin Period 7

2 How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? Our music video challenged conventions because we showed the difficulty of driving as well as the risks, while also showing it can be fun. Many people do not enjoy driving. We showed that it isn’t always so dull. However, we want to ensure that the viewers also understand that driving is no simple task and that it involves extreme caution. This represents the social issue of texting and driving, where most people think that it’s acceptable and safe to do. They think it’s no big deal, but in reality it’s most likely not important and it can wait. Note that the driver held the steering wheel with two hands in this shot.

3 How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?
Our product engages with a car enthusiasts audience as well as a J-POP genre fan base. An average female not normally come upon this type of song or video. Our music video would be distributed on YouTube where billions of people worldwide can easily view and stream billions of videos effortlessly and costly.

4 How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
I think my production skills went up tremendously throughout the course of this project. I didn’t do much camera work because I was one of the four drivers in the video. My understanding of the editing software and how to “create some magic” in the editing room did improve. Although my group and I used a different program to edit the video, I was able to practice on the original software as well as the new one. After seeing how much I’ve improved since the last project, I’m excited to see how much better the next project will turn out. Some of the errors are shown in the pictures to the right.

5 How did you integrate technologies - software, hardware and online - in this project?
Integrating technology was a key factor in creating this music video. My group and I used two different types of cameras; a Go Pro and our iPhone 6 cameras. Once we finished filming, we used an editing program that Kara had on her phone called Videostar. Then we went to iMovie to do the final touches. We originally used Adobe Premire Pro CC to edit and integrate all of the different clips, but we decided we didn’t like our rough draft and that we should try out this different program, which in my opinion, came out better. Then we had to use the internet to insert the song as well as upload our video and make our blogs. We decided to film at sunset so that we could have a cool background such as this one during the race. The other picture is an extract of a video we took using the GoPro with text added from iMovie.
