BYOD Bring Your Own Device Prior to signing the attached form please visit our website to review the entire BYOD User Agreement with your student. All students must have the student responsibilities (reverse side) turned into their teacher in order to participate in the BYOD program.

2 Section III: Definitions
Section I: Rationale The goal for both Lake County Schools and the Sawgrass Bay Elementary School’s Bring Your Own Device program is to create a technology-rich 21st century learning environment for our students. Through the BYOD program at Sawgrass Bay, students will be able to apply and develop integral 21st century skills, including written and oral communication, collaboration, problem-solving, critical thinking and digital literacy. Section II: Overview Sawgrass Bay Elementary School will permit 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students to bring devices for instructional purposes. Please note that the use of Smart Watches will not be permitted. The use of these personal electronic devices is a privilege, and students must adhere to all district policies and school procedures, including those listed below. Any violation of the following policies will result in the revocation of the student’s BYOD privileges, along with the consequences mentioned below. Please be sure to initial all sections of the Student & Family Agreement. This page only needs to be turned in to your child’s homeroom teacher. Section III: Definitions The term device is used to describe all electronic devices that can transmit digital media. The term technology is also used to describe all electronic devices that can transmit digital media. The term media in this document is used to signify any single medium used to communicate any data for any reason. Examples: digital photos, recorded audio, and digital and analog videos. Section IV: District Network Use of the Lake County Student wireless is entirely at the risk of the user, and Lake County Schools is not responsible for any loss of any information that may arise from the use of the wireless connection, or for any loss, injury, or damages resulting from the use of the wireless connection. All users of the Lake County Student network are bound by the district’s Acceptable Use Policy. By clicking “Accept” at login, you are agreeing to all of the above conditions and policies as they pertain to non-district devices. Section V: Bring Your Own Technology Policy and Procedures Guidelines Students are responsible for the security of their own devices. There will always be a risk of theft when at school. It is recommended that skins or other custom touches are used to distinguish your device from others. Technology personnel will not be available to investigate or troubleshoot students’ laptop or tablet issues. Lake County Schools is not responsible for content downloaded or installed on a student’s personal device.

3 Inappropriate Language
Restrictions against inappropriate language apply to public messages, private messages, and material created for assignments or to be posted on web pages. Students will not use obscene, profane, lewd, vulgar, rude, inflammatory, threatening, or disrespectful language. Students will not engage in personal attacks, including prejudicial or discriminatory attacks. Students will not harass another person. Harassment is persistently acting in a manner that distresses or annoys another person. Students will not knowingly or recklessly post false or defamatory information about a person or organization. Internet Only the internet gateway provided by the school may be accessed while on campus. Personal internet connective devices such as but not limited to cell phones (3G/4G) and cell network adapters are not permitted to be used to access outside internet sources at any time. Plagiarism and Copyright Infringement Students will not plagiarize works that are found on the Internet or on the computers at school or home. Plagiarism is taking the ideas or writings of others and presenting them as if they were their own. Students will respect the rights of copyright owners. Copyright infringement occurs when one inappropriately reproduces a work that is protected by a copyright. If a work contains language that specifies appropriate use of that work, the student will follow the expressed requirements. Respecting Resource Limits Students will use the technology at school only for educational activities. Students will not post chain letters or engage in “spamming.” Spamming is sending an unnecessary message to a large number of people. Students will not utilize instant messaging/iMessage type of programs or to communicate during school hours. Security and Damages Responsibility to keep the device secure rests with the individual owner. SBE is not liable for any device stolen or damaged on campus. It is recommended that skins (decals) and other custom touches are used to physically identify your device from others. Additionally, protective cases for technology are strongly recommended.

4 Section VI: Consequences

5 Student Responsibilities & Family Agreement
Student and parent/guardian must initial in the respective location to the left. Student Initials Parent Initials Responsibility Will not access or display any media that is deemed inappropriate for school. For example: If you can’t wear it to school on a shirt, you may not display or access it on your device. Will not use electronic devices/technology to cheat on assignments or tests. Will not use electronic devices/technology and/or media to bully, threaten, or abuse another person. Will not use electronic devices/technology to record, in any media format, another person without their knowledge and teacher permission. Will not use electronic devices/technology to /instant message other students (or parents) during the school day. All parent communication must go through the front office. Will bring the electronic device fully charged each day. Charging at school will rarely be allowed and the device must run on its own battery. Will use headphones (preferably earbuds) for tasks that require audio, and will keep the device on silent mode. Teachers reserve the right to ask a student to remove their headphones. Students may not wear headphones around the neck as an “accessory” when not in use. Will not use or bring electronic devices outside of the classroom (hallways, lunch, bus, car rider line, enrichment classes, recess). Devices should remain in the backpack when transporting to and from school. Will follow all classroom rules and procedures in relation to BYOD. Including ensuring that all devices are logged into the BYOD School Network (students may not use a 3G or 4G network). Cell phones and other devices with a data plan, must be on Airplane Mode. By signing below, I acknowledge that I have read the Sawgrass Bay Elementary BYOD policy in its entirety and am willing to abide by the policies and procedures set forth, along with the polices in the Lake County Student Code of Conduct. Any violation of the preceding agreement will result in the consequences stated on the SBE BYOD Website, up to and including, the loss of the privilege to bring a device to school.
