“Do little things with great love” – Mother teresa Remind app Classroom This year we will GROW in our love for reading and writing!!! Welcome to sixth grade Language Arts at ESUMS! I am very excited about this year, and I am especially glad to have you as part of my class. This year, we will focus on the development of your skills in reading, writing, and speaking. The instruction will be based partly on the reading and writing workshop format. I ask that you read the following course description, grading policy, and make-up guidelines carefully. If you have any questions concerning this course, feel free to contact me at any time via or Remind app. Areas to be Studied Students are expected to read for at least twenty minutes a night. They will always need to write a response in their reader’s/ writer’s notebook. Materials Needed Pencils 1 composition notebook 1” spiral notebook Your imagination! Grading Policies Projects, writing assignments, and quiz grades that are turned in late will lose ten points for every day they are past the due date. After three days, they will not be accepted! Classwork 30% Homework 10% Projects 30% Quizzes 15% Writing 15% Course Outline Unit Topics Core text 1 Short Story Thank You Ma’am; Charles; Seventh Grade; Rain, Rain, Go Away 2 Core 1 Fiction “Skin I’m In” 3 Core 2 Nonfiction “Disasters” 4 Core 3 Nonfiction “Yellow Death” 5 Multi genre Study TBA 6 Core 4 Fiction “No More Dead Dogs” Late homework will not be accepted.
