44 Scripture Reading Mark 9:34-38 But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another who was the greatest. 35 He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.” 36 Then he took a little child and put it among them; and taking it in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me.” 38 John said to him, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he was not following us.”

45 The Message

46 We are a sinful generation longing for your mercy.
Prayer of Confession Mark 8/Mark Blezard Merciful God, we confess that our sin turns us from you again and again. We are a sinful generation longing for your mercy. We want not only to save our lives, but to gain the whole world as well. We are too often ashamed to show our faith to the world around us. Have mercy on us. Amen.

47 Words of Assurance Romans 4
If we rely upon the law of God, we are beyond hope. But in God’s mercy we are declared righteous through our faith in Jesus, who died for our sins.
