The roads need to be repaired. The live above Gingrich Barber Shop and next to a grocery store. The street is clean. Inferences: They don’t own their house. They have a television. They keep their house clean. Description Home of Robert Snyder--upstairs over Barber shop. Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

3 Rising for Work at 5:15 AM Observations Inferences Description
The alarm clock rings early in the morning for Snyder--about 5:15 as usual.

4 Shaving Before Work Observations Inferences Description:
A hasty shave before the children are awake.

5 Stoking the Furnace Observations Inferences Description:
Snyder has to go down two flights to a dingy basement to stoke his furnace.

6 Attending Church Observations Inferences Description:
The Snyders attend the modest First Baptist Church in their neighborhood on Sundays.

7 Window Shopping Observations Inferences Description:
Window shopping. Christmas coming on, and kids want things that cost money no matter what the size of the pay check.

8 Grocery Shopping Observations Inferences Description:
Snyder makes his WPA check go as far as possible by shopping around for bargains at the grocery.

Observations Inferences Description: He is one of a gang of laborers building a retaining wall along a highway. That is Snyder at the left doing most of the pushing.

There are two boys and a girl in the Snyder family--all with good appetites; Bobby, 12; Donald, 10; and Mary Jane, 2.
