It has nothing to do with the communications satellite launched in 1962
Telstar was the first active communications satellite, and the first satellite designed to transmit telephone and high-speed data communications. Its name is used to this day for a number of television broadcasting satellites.However, the original, experimental program included just two nearly-identical satellites: "Telstar 1", launched July 10, 1962 and operational until February 21, 1963, and "Telstar 2", launched May 7, 1963 and operational until May 16, 1965.During its time in service, Telstar 1 relayed the first television pictures, telephone calls and fax images through space and provided the first live transatlantic television feed.

a 1962 instrumental record performed by The Tornados. It was the first single by a British band to reach number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and was also a number one hit in the UK. The record was named after the AT&T communications satellite Telstar, which went into orbit in July The song was released five weeks later on 17 August It was written and produced by Joe Meek, and featured a clavioline, a keyboard instrument with a distinctive electronic sound. "Telstar" won an Ivor Novello Award and is estimated to have sold at least five million copies worldwide.

What about Information Literacy? One of the intended benefits for learners (i.e. our students) is ‘enhancement of information literacy’
The project defines the following Benefits for learners:
equality and consistency of service provision across courses and programmes;
reduction of time spent on re-creation of bibliographic resources, and reduction of complexity in managing bibliographies;
improved efficiency and quality of references created;
enhancement of information literacy;
support for avoiding plagiarism;

Project Aims:
To create an exemplar project that seeks to:
replace the legacy system, MyOpenLibrary (MOL) with a more robust integrated technical solution for managing library content within the VLE workflow;
