The Peer Review Process
Without a doubt, you have been involved in some form of peer review during your academic and professional lives. It is a process built on the synergies of a group.

An Extra Set of Eyes… A peer review is your first editor.
What may seem perfectly clear to you may not make sense, grammatically or thematically, to someone else. The interaction with individuals focused around a similar situation is a powerful resource for improving your writing and clarifying your thinking.

Making It Work… Discuss the Objectives Build Relationships
Include your communication context with each review Build Relationships Civility and consideration are a must, but so is an honest evaluation Revise - Revise - Revise Revision is rethinking what you’ve written.

The Work of Peer Reviews
Focus on the peer review. Incorporate the reviews into your writing process. If you do not agree with your peer’s review, make sure you explain your reasons.

Finally… Again, be civil, but be honest.
One last thought – taking responsibility for your reaction to the writing is far different from judging the piece of writing. Here’s an example: I don’t understand the point you’re making in this paragraph. (Good) Versus This paragraph is poorly written. (Not Good)
