At the end of this module, you will be able to: List and define 12 work-related values. List those values that are important to you in career choice. State the titles of at least three occupations in which you may be able to attain your most important values. Direct Your Future 7-3

4 Module 7 Work-Related Values
A value is something we believe in so strongly that it affects our behavior. Achievement – Having a job that provides a feeling of success from having accomplished something. Challenge – Having a job that’s not routine, tests what I know, and keeps me learning and mentally sharp. Co-Workers – Having fellow employees that I enjoy working with because they are helpful and trustworthy; I could be friends with them outside work. Direct Your Future 7-4

Creativity – Having a job that calls on me to be resourceful, inventive, and come up with fresh ideas. Income – Having a job that pays a top wage, enabling me to live the way I want. Independence – Having a job where I might be my own boss, or where I am trusted to make decisions on my own without having to report to someone regularly. Direct Your Future 7-5

Lifestyle – Having a job that doesn’t compete with my personal activities by allowing me ample time for family, friends, and vacation. Prestige – Having an important job where people respect me and look up to me in work and social settings. Supervision – Having a fair supervisor who recognizes my value and is concerned about me, easy to talk to, and respects my opinions. Variety – Having a job that is not routine, with wide-ranging duties, allowing me to do many different things. Workplace – Having a job in a clean, safe, and comfortable setting.
