4. Receive
Then the Spirit led Jesus into the desert to be tempted by the Devil. After spending forty days and nights without food, Jesus was hungry. Then the Devil came to him and said, “If you are God's Son, order these stones to turn into bread." But Jesus answered, “The scripture says, ‘Human beings cannot live on bread alone, but need every word that God speaks.' "

5. Engage
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. Lent is the forty days (excluding Sundays) which come between Ash Wednesday and Easter, traditionally a time of fasting, prayer and almsgiving (giving money).
In Lent many people make sacrifices to focus on the sacrifice that Jesus made for us.

6. Engage Some discussion ideas …
Sometimes we have to give something (sacrifice) to help others – what sorts of things would you give?
Jesus was tempted to make himself powerful – what could be the traps you could fall into if you had power?
Activity suggestion … Make a Lent calendar and write on acts of kindness that you can do on each day.
Video suggestions … awkward things to give up for Lent
Jesus is tempted in the desert -

7. Respond Amen Holy God, our lives are laid open before you:
rescue us from the chaos of sin
and through the death of your Son
bring us healing
and make us whole
in Jesus Christ our Lord.
