4 Reasonable Adjustments
Can be defined as taking positive steps to remove barriers for people with disabilities Typical adjustments in HE Examinations/Assessment Lectures Physical Environment Technology 25% extra time - use of a reader and/or scribe - use of a computer (and assistive technology) - rest breaks - sit exams in a smaller venue (eg up to 15) - access to appropriate ergonomic equipment - alternative formats

5 Role of a Disability Adviser
Talk to applicants and students about their support requirements Assist in applying for Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA) Help to arrange assessments of study support requirements Liaise with appropriate staff about exam arrangements Liaise with academic and related staff about support and adjustments in the learning environment Work with external agencies for the provision of appropriate non-medical helper support

Ensures you can have a full discussion of your support needs You receive training in the use of any assistive technologies Ensures you can access and use all appropriate support at the start of the course
