1 Misunderstanding

2 “Understanding” Knowing with verifiable certainty a truth or a reality (Prov 1:5-7; 2:2-7). The “fear of God” will cause us to want to see things as they really are.

3 “Misunderstanding” Prov 12:15 – The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who heeds counsel is wise. Prov16:2 – All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirits.

4 Committed to Understanding
Satan’s power is bound up in a lie (John 8:44-45; Eph 4:17-19). Christians must be commit- ted to understanding truth (John 17:17 – God’s word; Phil 4:8 – what is real).

5 Committed to Understanding
Wisdom is PURE (Jas 3:17). Consider what is TRUE (Phil 4:8). Keep motives HONEST (Heb 4:12). Above relationship desire TRUTH (John 9:20-22).

6 Respond to Misunderstanding
Like Jesus did (1 Pet 2:23; cf. Rom 12:17-21). He had enemies without a cause (Psa 35:19; 69:4). Beware of flattery (Prov 26:28) Be sure that you are not the one who misunderstands.

7 The Tools Needed for True Understanding Avoid Misunderstanding
Committed to God’s stand- ard of justice & love (Zech 7:8-9; Mic 6:8; Luke 11:42). Take the difficult path to find out what is true (Matt 18:15- 17; 5:23-24; Gal 6:1). Strive for the wisdom that originated with God (Jas 3:17-18; 2:13).
