2 Get thinking... This photograph shows a girl looking at a scene that is typical for our world in 2015. What would the rest of the photograph look like? Draw a scene to show the whole image.

3 It’s the outskirts of Hong Kong one of the biggest cities in the world.
How close was this to what you have drawn? Why did you draw your image

4 Learning objectives To know what mega cities are and where they are located. To understand some of the challenges associated with the emergence of megacities. Describe a distribution from a map.

5 Key Term Mega-cities: An urban area with a total population in excess of ten million people

6 TASK 1: Can you find twelve examples of megacities across the world and mark them on a world map? Race to see who can do this both quickly and accurately! Stretch yourself: Why do you think these cities have become so large?

7 Exam alert! Look at the map you have produced.
Describe the global distribution of megacities (3 marks) Have you: Said which continents have most megacities? Said which continents have few megacities? Supported your answer with named examples of megacities?

8 The emergence of megacities across the world brings big populations and big challenges...
Will there be enough jobs for everyone? How can people be transported around the city? How can sewage and waste be disposed of? Just like in Mexico city… TASK 2: Can you think of 5 adjectives to describe the sewer shown in this clip?

9 Reflection... Imagine that the floor is a map of the world. Where would each continent be? Stand somewhere where you think there is a megacity.
