Symmetrix is the world’s most powerful storage. More than 20 years ago, Symmetrix introduced the first high-end enterprise storage array—the Symmetrix With each new Symmetrix, EMC elevated the industry standard for performance, scale, and capability of enterprise storage, and continuously maintained its position as the global high-end storage leader. Symmetrix is also the world’s most trusted storage, having released several first-to-market innovations that further defined the industry. From the very first Intelligent Cached Disk Array (ICDA), to local and remote replication, to advanced security and data protection solutions, Symmetrix has always been trusted to perform in the most mission-critical and demanding environments anywhere, including those in Banking, Manufacturing, and Government and Defense, to name a few. And with a proven track record of being both powerful and trusted, Symmetrix, with its advanced development, is also the smartest storage. With Intel technology inside, Symmetrix VMAX 40K, 20K, and 10K platforms are again leading the industry with new innovations, including Fully Automated Storage Tiering for Virtual Pools (FAST VP), new levels of encryption with RSA, groundbreaking new models for nondisruptive data movement with Federated Live Migration, and the industry’s best storage for virtual server environments. EMC recently introduced the newest Symmetrix array, the Symmetrix VMAX 40K, which delivers two- times the performance and scale over the current Symmetrix VMAX, and flexible deployment options such as the Dense Configuration Option and System Bay Dispersion for space-constrained data centers. Note to Presenter: Click now in Slide Show Mode for animation. The Symmetrix VMAX 10K provides an entry point for companies looking to move into the high-end Symmetrix family. Symmetrix VMAX 10K is specifically optimized to include capabilities like Virtual Provisioning and FAST VP as standard, to best serve a set of customer requirements EMC has identified, which we will cover in detail. Why Symmetrix VMAX 10K? Trusted True Tier-1 Enterprise-class availability, data integrity, and security Smart Symmetrix VMAX 10K is… Trusted: Symmetrix has over 20 years of industry leadership running mission-critical applications EMC’s world-class Symmetrix Virtual Matrix Architecture #1 globally in the high end Smart: Optimized for failure-mode performance Fast VP automated storage tiering End-to-end management that is simple, intuitive, and quick Efficient: 100 percent virtually provisioned Integrated local or remote replication capabilities Eco- and IT budget-friendly, energy-efficient power management Supports both 2.5” and 3.5” drives for the most efficient configurations Same day install and start-up operation Self-tuning and optimized for virtual computing Efficient Simple and cost-effective operations

4 Optimized for Easy Management and Install
100% Virtual Provisioning FAST VP Easy to set up Simplified storage administration Simplified tier management Arrives pre-configured 3 TB 4 TB Physical allocation Common Storage Pool Flash Fibre Channel Symmetrix VMAX 10K is smart and efficient because it is easy to manage. The 100 percent virtually provisioned environment works with the Zero Space Reclaim capability, which when combined with EMC Open Replicator for Symmetrix, eliminates separate steps to reclaim “zero” space when migrating virtually provisioned devices. Virtual Provisioning also allows you to shrink and grow pools with automatic balancing across them. And when combined with TimeFinder clones and virtual snapshots, you can also take further advantage of the virtually provisioned environment thus preserving storage capacity. FAST VP optimizes performance and reduces cost, while radically simplifying management and increasing storage efficiency. FAST VP’s advantages over all vendors include more granular movement of sub-LUN data between tiers, which provides not only better optimization of Flash drives, but better responsiveness in adapting to changes in data activity. FAST VP also supports two, three or four storage tiers whereas some competitors support only two. In the next few slides, we’ll spend go into great detail on FAST VP. Symmetrix VMAX 10K includes pre-configuration for easy set-up on the same day the array is received, with an installation that takes less than four hours. The combination of Symmetrix VMAX 10K’s Virtual Provisioning and Auto-Provisioning Groups delivers dramatic reductions in administration and machine time required to perform storage provisioning. For example, the time required to provision 1 TB of capacity—which includes forming RAID groups, creating and initializing the LUNs, and mapping the LUNs to hosts—can be accomplished in fewer than four minutes. Compared to a Symmetrix DMX-3 using traditional thick provisioning tools, this represents a more than 95 percent reduction in total time to provision. 10 VMAX 10K Savings with FAST VP
This 100% Fibre Channel 100 TB 1,080 disks With FAST VP, the Symmetrix VMAX 10K helps organizations save money and resources. In the past, 100 TB of storage would require over 1,000 high-speed Fibre Channel disk drives. Now with FAST VP running on Symmetrix VMAX 10K, that same 100 TB requires slightly over 110 disk drives—almost a 90 percent reduction. The FAST VP software intelligently places information based on the application’s usage of storage. Note to Presenter: Click now in Slide Show Mode for animation. But more importantly, FAST VP can lower the storage cost by 40 percent and at the same time improve the performance by 40 percent. No other vendor’s storage array can deliver these capabilities, and EMC has the facts to back this up. 40% lower storage costs higher performance 2–3% Enterprise Flash Becomes this 18–28% Fibre Channel 70–80% SATA 100 TB 112 disks

11 Wikibon Confirms EMC Is #1 in ATS
Automated Tiered Storage (ATS) is a key differentiator for arrays Tier 1 and 1.5 Storage Arrays Report Findings EMC leads ATS in Tiers 1 and 1.5 with FAST VP VMAX 10K 33% better than HP 3PAR FAST VP delivers clear ROI, cuts costs by 20–30% Value Index (Max 100) FAST VP has been a differentiator for Symmetrix VMAX since its introduction. However, since FAST was first introduced, other competitors have tried to come up with their own ways to automate tiered storage. Wikibon recently published a report showing just how differentiated FAST VP is (source: The study centered on the requirements of Automated Tiered Storage (or ATS) on Tier 1 and Tier 1.5 arrays. The study assumed that the workloads supported by these arrays are large-scale, very high value applications with aggressive, consistent performance and very demanding RPO and RTO requirements. Wikibon presents the current business case for tiered storage, which is simple—reduced cost of storage and reduced cost of managing storage. The long-term belief is that risk can also be reduced, as the products improve and users become comfortable with the new business processes required to manage tiered storage. The report identifies two types of storage tiers. There are tiers of storage arrays (Tier 1 and Tier 1.5), and tiers within the storage arrays (SSDs through SATA). In this study Wikibon researched the Automated Tiered Storage capabilities of Tier 1 arrays and the high-end of Tier 1.5 arrays to confirm that ATS will work with the most challenging workloads. The bottom line is that Wikibon found potential savings that are meaningful to CIOs. Specifically, their research with early practitioners suggests that ATS is an evolutionary technology that will be widely adopted and shave storage TCO by 20 percent over a four-year period. The report shows that EMC leads the industry significantly in Tier 1 and Tier 1.5 ATS with FAST VP. It documents how FAST VP delivers clear ROI to EMC customers with projected cost savings of 20 to 30 percent. Note to Presenter: This report is available through the link above and can be a great way to help your customers see the value of FAST VP. There are also two new online courses that will help you position FAST VP and VMAX 10K against the competition. 12 FAST VP: Automatically Optimizes Application Performance
FAST Elements Storage Tier: A shared storage resource with common characteristics FAST Policies: Policies that manage data placement and movement across storage tiers Storage Group: A logical grouping of devices for common management Storage Tier FAST Policies Platinum Storage Groups Tier 1 200 GB Flash RAID 5 (3+1) It’s important to understand the key elements of Symmetrix FAST. A storage tier is a shared storage resource that is defined by a combination of storage media and RAID protection—for example, Flash storage with RAID 5 protection. FAST Policies manage data placement and movement across storage tiers. For example, a “Platinum” policy could consist of 25 percent Flash, 50 percent Fibre Channel, and 25 percent SATA. And a “Silver” policy could be defined by a mix of only Fibre Channel and SATA. A Storage Group contains a set of storage devices that are associated with an application. A FAST Policy is associated with each Storage Group, so FAST can monitor and optimize the performance of the Storage Group to make the best use of Flash and SATA drives—reducing cost per IOPS and cost per gigabyte while meeting the performance requirements of the application. FAST will manage the percentage of storage tiers of Flash, Fibre Channel, and SATA allocated to each Storage Group. These concepts allow you to create storage tiers, define specific FAST Policies, and then apply them to Storage Groups as appropriate. This allows FAST to deliver the right level of service to each application or line of business. 3% DB2_SG 25% Tier 2 146 GB 15K FC RAID 1 100% Oracle_SG Silver Tier 3 1 TB SATA RAID 6 (14+2) 100% 100% Development_SG Tier 4 FTS PER VENDOR Bronze 80% 20%

New Simplify Management and Operations Consolidate heterogeneous storage under VMAX control FAST VP, EMC SRDF, EMC TimeFinder, VLUN, VAAI, … Extend the life and value of storage assets Assure data integrity for external arrays with validation checksums Free with Enginuity 5876 (or Later) Available with VMAX 10K, 20K, 40K FTS Federated Tiered Storage is now available on all VMAX platforms including the VMAX 10K. It simplifies management and operations and consolidates heterogeneous storage under Symmetrix VMAX 10K, 20K, and 40K control. It provides the ability to use trusted Symmetrix features such as FAST VP, SRDF, TimeFinder, VLUN, and VAAI. Federated Tiered Storage extends the life and value of older storage assets. It can also be used to move all the data from the external storage assets to VMAX. With FAST VP, the external capacity can be declared as a tier within FAST, and FAST will automatically move data between the external array and VMAX to optimize performance. Symmetrix VMAX assures data integrity for external arrays with validation checksums. While other vendors such as HDS claim virtualization, they do not have external array data integrity checking.

15 Enginuity: Host I/O Limits
New Set upper limits IOPS, MB/s, or both Currently static By storage or port group LUNs for database or … Front-end ports Resources divided Equal sharing Prevents apps or servers from consuming more than their share of I/O PORT GROUPS STORAGE GROUPS 8% 30% 50% FE PORT Host I/O Limits is a tool that customers, enterprise service providers or third party service providers can use to gain control and predictability over the application performance on their arrays. By limiting the performance of applications to a specific IOPS or MB/sec quota, the front end resources can be accurately partitioned between the applications that share these resources. In addition, they can set their customer’s expectations for performance to a bound limit that is not based solely on the available resources of the array, but by manual settings. You can run more intensive applications on the same hardware, improving ROI. Performance quotas are divided up among the directors in the storage group masking view at the time of setting the limits. For example, if a user sets a quota of 50MB/s on a storage group with two directors, each director will get 25MB/s of quota. These quotas, or limits, are not shared among directors within a storage group masking view. Each director monitors its own LUNs for limits and slows I/O once limits are reached in order to discourage more. The system has flexibility to burst I/O; If applications underutilize their quotas for a period of time, then they’re allowed to go above their quota in short bursts.

16 Powerful Scalability for Hybrid Cloud
World’s most scalable high-end storage arrays 1–4 Engines 1–8 Engines 1–8 Engines EMC offers customers a full line of high-end storage platforms. Let’s take a closer look at choosing among the different models. 18 Business Continuity Now let’s take a few moments and look at how EMC delivers industry-leading business continuity and disaster recovery solutions.

19 Local and Remote Replication
Trusted, smart, and efficient replication and management Local Remote Management With TimeFinder for VMAX 10K, you have the option of creating a full clone, which is a 100 percent copy of what has been allocated to the virtually provisioned volume, or TimeFinder VP (Virtual Pool) Snaps. TimeFinder VP Snaps are space-efficient snaps for Virtual Pool devices and provide up to 32 VP Snaps per source. The benefit of VP snaps are they dramatically improve cache utilization and deliver simplified pool management in a 100 percent virtually provisioned environment like VMAX 10K. The integrated RecoverPoint splitter for VMAX 10K is also available on this platform to enable RecoverPoint’s l or remote replication. RecoverPoint provides a DVR-like capability with near-zero recovery point objectives (RPO); RecoverPoint provides a heterogeneous block-level local replication; RecoverPoint provides bi-directional, heterogeneous block-level remote replication—both synchronous and asynchronous, with a 90 percent reduction in WAN bandwidth; and RecoverPoint is also integrated with VMware’s vCenter Site Recovery Manager. SRDF is the most widely deployed, array-based disaster restart solution in the industry. It runs on Enginuity for VMAX 10K, and is the data protection and replication standard for high-end Symmetrix storage. The SRDF family’s major benefits are that it: Protects against local and regional disruptions Increases application availability by reducing downtime Minimizes/eliminates performance impact on applications and databases Is independent of hosts and operating systems, applications, and databases Improves RPOs and recovery time objective (RTOs) with automated restart solutions Is mission-critical proven with more than 40,000 licenses shipped and numerous testimonials and references SRDF’s major advantage is that it is a well-proven, enterprise-wide disaster recovery solution, not a point solution for an individual application or database. SRDF with Thick to Thin replication is supported between Symmetrix VMAX 40K, 20K, 10K, and older Symmetrix DMX-4 or DMX-3 arrays. Support for site-to-site, 3-site configurations, and Star support is available depending on Symmetrix hardware and Enginuity releases. Replication Manager also uses a centralized management console to simplify RecoverPoint and TimeFinder operations by providing a single, wizard-driven GUI to automate the creation of “application-consistent” replicas. Replication Manager supports TimeFinder and RecoverPoint in both local and remote applications, and operates in both physical and virtual environments. Data protection, replication, and disaster recovery solution RecoverPoint Family DVR-like recovery to any point in time Dynamic synchronous and asynchronous replication Customized RPOs supporting: VMAX 10K arrays VMAX 10K to VMAX 40K or 20K VMAX 10K to VNX/ CLARiiON VMAX 10K to non-EMC arrays WAN bandwidth data reduction of up to 90 percent of changed data Nondisruptive business continuity and disaster recovery testing CRR: Remote Protection CLR: Concurrent Local and Remote Protection CDP: Local Protection Now let’s spend a few minutes on RecoverPoint for Symmetrix VMAX 10K. There are three products that make up the RecoverPoint family: RecoverPoint/CL, RecoverPoint/EX, and RecoverPoint/SE. It’s important to note that RecoverPoint/SE does not support Symmetrix VMAX 10K and that the VMAX 10K is the only Symmetrix that supports the array-based write splitter. RecoverPoint/CL and RecoverPoint/EX both support block LUNs from the Symmetrix VMAX 10K storage arrays and RecoverPoint or later is required for support of the Symmetrix VMAX 10K. Both RecoverPoint/CL and RecoverPoint/EX support an array-based write splitter for the VMAX 10K. RecoverPoint/CL supports mixed storage and intelligent-fabric environments and up to 300 TB of replicated data, as well as cascaded three-site replication. RecoverPoint/EX supports Symmetrix VMAX 10K arrays and zero or more VNX series, CLARiiON CX3, and CLARiiON CX4 arrays for local and remote block-level replication. RecoverPoint offers flexible RPOs with dynamic synchronous and asynchronous options to allow you to customize RPOs based on criticality of their data. It’s flexible enough to replicate between Symmetrix VMAX 10K arrays, Symmetrix VMAX 10K to VNX, Symmetrix VMAX 10K to CLARiiON, and even from Symmetrix VMAX 10K to non-EMC arrays. With a 90 percent reduction in replicated data due to built-in WAN deduplication, data compression, and write folding, you can save on network costs and, in many cases, can use existing networks to protect your data. Whatever the topology, Symmetrix VMAX 10K and RecoverPoint provide application-level consistency and recovery for federated, clustered, physical, virtual, and cloud environments. T0 T+90

21 Business Solutions Let’s take a look at some real world use cases for VMAX 10K and how your business can benefit from the solution.

22 Optimized for VMware Environments
vSphere and VMware integration Optimized for VMware VMAX plug-in to admin through vSphere Performance Optimized Almost 700K IOPS FAST VP Symmetrix VMAX 40K, 20K, and 10K are the best storage arrays for virtual server environments, either VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V, bringing both smart and powerful functionality to these environments. This graphic outlines the VMWare integration and the next slide will go into detail on integration with Microsoft’s Hyper-V. EMC’s Enginuity Operating Environment delivers integration with VMware vSphere 5.x with support for vStorage APIs for Array Integration (VAAI). VAAI includes a set of key APIs that intelligently offload storage hardware acceleration functions to the storage array. This increases scalability by enabling 10- times less I/O for formatting commands, with 10-times more virtual machines per data storage, and 10-times faster replication of virtual machines to create snapshots and clones that can be used to speed deployments. The Symmetrix VMAX family is VMware Certified and supports VMware VASA (vSphere Storage APIs for Storage Awareness) and VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager (SRM). VASA can be used to implement QoS through compliance with storage profile assignments for VMs and their associated ESX datastores (LUNs). VMware SRM is supported by Symmetrix VMAX family, SRDF for VMAX 10K, and RecoverPoint, and simplifies and automates disaster recovery workflows. Beyond the standard VMware integration, EMC has delivered Virtual Storage Integrator (VSI). With VSI, storage administrators can allow virtual server administrators to have access to storage resources to provision capacity. This allows storage administrators to easily leverage the advanced efficiency, scalability, and security capabilities of Symmetrix VMAX 10K for virtual servers. The key to Virtual Storage Integrator is that the storage administrator continues to maintain control of the infrastructure, and can effectively manage virtual server storage in combination with other applications sharing the same storage array. EMC ProSphere also provides end-to-end visibility of the virtual environment and automated management for mixed storage environments with the following functionality: End-to-end visibility and control for a single management screen Discover, visualize, and manage storage-to-virtual machine relationships Simplify the ability to monitor, provision, and report on virtual servers Host offload with VAAI/VASA APIs Virtual Pools for space- efficient data stores SRM for automated recovery EMC VSI or Unisphere end-to-end view
