Gabriel – Have teachers look at their SMP pages we passed previously and state an exemplar of evidence from a student enacting the SMP. Be thinking about examples you can write about students

Stigler and Heibert “Japanese teachers believe students learn best by first struggling to solve mathematics problems, then participating in discussions about how to solve them, and then hearing about the pros and cons of different methods and the relationships between them.”

5 OCTM Planning Someone not teaching in the lesson study should be on the look out for a few student samples to share and discuss at OCTM. These samples need to be either be scanned and ed to me or given to Sherry/Nisakorn to give to me. Someone needs to type up and to me bullet points of what the group learned as a result of this research lesson – I will put these in our PowerPoint for you to discuss at our OCTM presentation – 10 minutes for grade level. Anything else you want to share with other teachers. OCTM Conference Presentation Day: Thursday and/or Friday, October 27 OR 28, 2016 (1 or 2 day: sub costs paid to schools but its up to you) K-2 Thursday 8:00am – 9:20am 3-5 Thursday 9:30am - 10:50am 6-8 Friday 9:30am – 10:50am
