2. Definition of Prose Fiction
Fiction is a story, a made up story, about characters (Brooks Jr, and Penn, in Koesnosoebroto, 1998: 9).

3. The Characteristics of Prose Fiction
It is fiction in the broad literary sense, i.e. invented, so it is not the same factual truth.
It is non dramatic in the sense that it is a narration and description although it may have dialogue to convey the story and characters.
It is narrative, it tells a story.

4. It is descriptive. In telling a story the may describe the characters, , situation, and place.
It is written in non-poetical style, but in phrases.
