1 November 30, 2010 Bellringer #30—Look at the map on page , and answer the following questions: What does the purple area represent? Which continents did Alexander conquer land on? (Hint: there are 3!!!) How many cities did Alexander name after himself?

Alexander the Great built a huge empire and helped spread Greek culture into Egypt and Asia.

3 Let’s go back a few years…
From the years BC, much of Greece was at war with each other Peloponnesian War Athens vs. Sparta Many of the other city-states had joined one of the sides

4 Greece-Post War Eventually, Sparta ends up winning the war Results:
none of the city-states were really strong after being at war for so long Greece was filled with distrust

5 Philip II of Macedonia Eventually, a new leader of Greece emerged
Philip II of Macedonia controlled all of Greece by 338 B.C.

6 Who was Alexander? He was the son of Philip II
He was taught by Aristotle (Greek philosopher). He became king when Philip II was assassinated

I will check all of these things as you watch the video. If you do not have them out and ready, I will assume that you do not have them at all. You have one minute to get everything out.
