1 Has God Spoken? Hebrews 1:1-2

2 What The Question Assumes
The existence of God (Heb. 11:6) That God has something to say (1 Cor. 2:9-10) That man needs to hear it (James 1:21) That, possibly, God has already spoken (Heb. 1:1-2)

3 How Has God Spoken? “…to the fathers by the prophets”
Spoke unto Adam and Eve (Gen. 1:27-30); Moses (Ex. 19:3-6); David (2 Sam. 7:4-5); Elijah (1 Kgs. 17:2-5) “…in various ways” Directly (as already seen) Inanimate objects (bush-Ex. 3:4) Even through an animal (donkey-Num. 22:28)

4 2 Peter 1:21 “knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit”

5 “…spoken unto us by His Son.”
What Jesus said (Jn. 14:24) God’s acknowledgment (Matt. 17:5) What the apostles understood (Acts 10:36) “…in these last days” Began on Pentecost (Acts 2:16-21) Last days continue until the Lord’s return

6 The Appeal Of God’s Word
It is to intellect

7 “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (Jn

8 “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (Jn

9 “Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures” (Acts 17:2)

10 “Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures” (Acts 17:2)

11 “how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)” (Eph 3:4)

12 “how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)” (Eph 3:4)

13 “Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder)” (2 Peter 3:1)

14 “Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder)” (2 Peter 3:1)

15 The Appeal Of God’s Word
It is to intellect It is not to emotion and passion Affections and desires are to be controlled, not be in control Must be careful to walk after the spirit, not the flesh (Gal. 5:24-25) Religious climate today has this backwards

16 What Is Required Of Me? To keep His words (Eccl. 12:13; Rev. 22:14)
To be an approved workman (2 Tim. 2:15) Requires an effort (“diligent”; “study” [KJV]) Skilled, capable, experienced. Work will stand up to any scrutiny, even invites inspection
