8 Music of the early 1800s Much of the music was religious as during this period, the country experienced several times of great religious revival (increase in religious faith and practice. One type of religious music is the spiritual, where Bible stories were told in song. Examples: “Go Down Moses”, “In the Sweet Bye and Bye”, “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” American Folk music reflected aspects of American life, especially life on the frontier, as well as the nationalism and pride of the new nation. Songs like “Fifteen Miles on the Erie Canal”, “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad”, “She’ll Be Comin’ Round the Mountain”

9 Architecture: Buildings built in the early 1800s were often built in the style of ancient Greece and Rome because they contained some of the same republican and democratic ideas found in the United States. The large, round, white columns in front of buildings, arches on windows and the use of marble and other stone Thomas Jefferson and other leaders started this trend
