IMovie and Animoto
16
Drawing and Painting Apps
17
Tracing Paper Remember when you were back learning how to write in cursive and tracing all those letters? This app is a lot like that.
18
Hello Crayons Breakout the Crayolas because this gives the look of crayons. Limited number of colors but it is a great app for the younger kids.
19
Doodle Buddy Similar to MS Paint. Basic drawing program with the addition of some simple stickers. Great way to introduce art to the little ones.
20
Drawing Carl A drawing app geared for a younger audience. Great sound geared for that age that makes it fun.
21
Art of Glow This was extremely popular with the kids.
It reminds me a lot of a modernized version of a light and bright. I remember when I was little and sat in my room and put that black construction paper on that cube with different colored mini-lights. Other similar apps. Fire Lite. Scribble. Fireworks. SpawnIT, SpawnGlow, ArtSpin, 3DSpin, IBurn
22
SumoPaint Photoshop-esque type app that has a lot of great qualities.
It's especially great for doing radial symmetry.
23
Brushes Easy tool bars used for painting. The color wheel palette is great. Works with layers and can switch brushes easily. Fast and responsive. One of the great things about brushes is the ability to record each brush stroke and play it back exactly what they did. Connect to Apple TV and then broadcast to see what they are doing.
24
Procreate It has a platform similar to a real life photoshop.
It has an easy to manipulate color palette with different slides. Has a great variety of "brushes (tools)" which could mean pencils, oil pastels, chalk, pencils, crayons, pens, markers, to real brushes but it doesn't stop there...Damp brushes, wet flat, old, round, air brushes, and then you can apply textures. It uses layers like photoshop. Easy to import and export. Use of a stylus would be great with this app, but if one isn't available have the kids use the side of their finger.. Procreate
25
Art Rage Numerous features and options. Has a variety of paper and canvases. Has a large variety of brushes, pencils, rollers, pastels, crayons. Can change the brush size, has an easy color picker and layers. Throws a glob of paint and smear. Mix and undo it. Paint directly onto the screen.
26
When you download it, it has a nice tutorial to start off
When you download it, it has a nice tutorial to start off. It is essentially like a digital sketchbook to doodle, jot down thoughts. Initial download has a basic ink quill with an eraser and the ability to use close to thirty colors. Has a really cool feature to "rewind" the clock if you will as a way of undoing some of your actions if you don't like what you've done. Good use of sharing online whether it be on Tumblr, Facebook or Twitter. Lots of in- app purchases, such as sketch, fill, and write. Can customize your digital sketchbook with photographs from your camera roll. Decent color palette with the ability to customize and mix colors to create your own custom palette. I do like the option of zooming in to add detail to your ideas by pinching in or pinching out. Lot of possibilities as far as as different paper looks. Paper 53
27
Art Studio Sort of a simplified version of Photoshop.
25 different brushes. Different canvas size. Drawings are automatically saved (which we all know is nice) Free draw with smoothing, free draw without smoothing (rough edges) Layers, layer masks which is nice, but limited to five layers maximum. Symmetrical drawing mode allows you to draw mirrored effect. Filters: Gaussian blur, sharpen, edge detect, vignette, emboss, sepia and more... Step by step lessons and tutorials with the ability to export to Photoshop 3D Brighten and Darken Draw on a blank canvas or import a photograph. Can export to Camera roll or send . Shake Feature like an Etch a Sketch.
28
Inspire Pro Adjust the paint load. Customize brushes. Dynamic color picker and switch colors while in use. 50 brushes with ability to control opacity, size, pressure, load amount and the ability reload without stoppinng. Different sized canvas 1000 different ways to undo/redo something. Paintings can be imported and exported easily to computer, facebook, twitter, etc...
29
Zen Brush Japanese Calligraphy App and brush.
Allows the free flowing feel of using an ink brush without the fear of your kids getting ink on their clothes. There is a large collection of backgrounds that you use that will take you back to ancient Asian times. I use this with my first graders when they make their pinch pot tea cups. They practice writing their Chinese characters before they use a more permanent glaze. YouTube Demonstration

Sketchbook Pro Sketchbook Pen and Ink
31
Jackson Pollock's Action Painting
Paint like the famous abstract artist himself. Different dots, globs, pours create a nice messy look without the clean up.
32
Auryn Ink This app is created by a digital publishing company that works together with author's and illustrators focused on creating creative children stories for IPads and other tablets. This is of course a watercolor app. It has a variety of brushes with different tip shapes Like in real life, paint fades as you paint more and more. Adjust the texture of the canvas and the amount of water on your brush. Tilt feature that will have the paint drip vertically. Sort of demonstration brush sensitivity. The brush will dry up if they have no water on brush. Realistic watercolor. Youtube Demonstration
33
Photography and Collage Apps
34
CamStar CamBooth
35
ArtCamera Photography app with 33 different filters with an artistic flair. Change a photograph off your camera roll so it looks like a Claude Monet painting. MasterpieceMe is another app that's cool that puts your face on the body of Mona Lisa and other famous paintings.
36
Fracture Pablo Picasso and George Braque popularized the cubist movement. This app recreates the cubist style
37

49
Art Authority Database of thousands of painting from ancient civilizations to modern times. Mostly Western world paintings.
50
Draw a Stickman Series Not for kids) For those parents who maybe have given up. This app will turn anything into an animated character that will guide the "artist" into drawing even the simplest of things. This is really an awesome app that I recommend to any young child or adult that is just beginning to wade into the waters of illustration. :)
