Causes of the American Revolution Vocabulary Word Definition Illustration Debt Something, typically money, that is owed or due. Taxes An amount of money that a government requires people to pay according to their income, the value of their property. Propaganda ideas or statements that are often false or exaggerated and that are spread in order to help a cause, a political leader, a government, etc.  Intolerable Not tolerable, unbearable Civil Disobedience Refusal to obey laws as a way of forcing the government to do or change something “No Taxation without Representation” The slogan created by the colonists when the British Parliament, or government, taxed colonists on goods but the colonists did not have representation in parliament.

Unalienable impossible to take away or give up  Grievance A feeling of having been treated unfairly
