Figure 5 (A) Urothelial epithelium underwent squamous metaplasia. Brown melanin-containing tumor cells with pagetoid spreading pattern, occasionally spreading into top of epithelium. No invasive component within this focus. (B) Urothelial epithelium underwent squamous metaplasia. Brown melanin pigment within tumor cytoplasm is identified. Melanoma tumor cells appear to arise from basal epithelium and invade downward beyond epithelium. (C) Higher power of figure B shows brown melanin pigment within invasive tumor cell cytoplasm. Basal in situ component is present on left of image. (D) Numerous mitoses along with scattered brown melanin-containing tumor cells.
