The Story of The Rich Man and Lazarus
Luke 16:19–31 (NASB95) 19“Now there was a rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple and fine linen, joyously living in splendor every day. 20“And a poor man named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with sores, 21and longing to be fed with the crumbs which were falling from the rich man’s table; besides, even the dogs were coming and licking his sores. 22“Now the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried. 23“In Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his bosom. 24“And he cried out and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in this flame.’ 25“But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that during your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things; but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony. 26‘And besides all this, between us and you there is a great chasm fixed, so that those who wish to come over from here to you will not be able, and that none may cross over from there to us.’ 27“And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, that you send him to my father’s house— 28for I have five brothers—in order that he may warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ 29“But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ 30“But he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!’ 31“But he said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’ ” 2 Peter 2:4 (NASB95) 4For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for judgment; Jude 6 (NASB95) 6And angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode, He has kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day,

The lower part/heart of the Earth
Hades Prior to The Resurrection Of Christ Luke 16:19-31 The Earth Abrahams Bosom Paradise Believers “a great chasm fixed” Hades/Sheol Place of Torment Unbelievers This page is explained by the story of the “rich man and Lazarus”, which Jesus told in Luke 16:19-31. Hades/Sheol is located in the lower part of the earth. This is what happens to people (unbelievers and believers) when they died before the resurrection of Christ. This includes all souls prior or before the resurrection of Christ. Unbelievers and Believers bodies all went to the grave. Their souls all went to Hades/Sheol (this is a word that is used in the OT for Hades). All Believers souls went to the “Abraham’s Bosom (Paradise)” compartment. Unbelievers souls went to the “place of torment”. This is a compartment below the Paradise compartment, it was hot and tormenting. The unbelievers could see into the Paradise compartment, but could not go there, because there was a great chasm or gulf fixed. A large space separating the two compartments. Below the place of torment for unbelievers, there is another compartment called “Tartarus”, which is where the fallen angels of Genesis 6, who infiltrated the human race before the great flood are, in pits of darkness awaiting their judgment. Heaven Hades After The Resurrection Of Christ Believers The Earth Luke 16:19-31 Christ took Believers to Heaven Eph. 4:8-9 Ps.68:18 “a great chasm fixed” Hades/Sheol Place of Torment Unbelievers This page shows us that Jesus Christ went down into Hades after His Resurrection and took the believers souls from the Paradise compartment of hades and brought them all to heaven. The unbelievers were left in Hades in the place of torment, compartment. As before, when believers and unbelievers die their bodies all go into the grave. Ephesians 4:8–9 (NASB95) 8Therefore it says, “When He ascended on high, He led captive a host of captives, And He gave gifts to men.” 9(Now this expression, “He ascended,” what does it mean except that He also had descended into the lower parts of the earth? Psalm 68:18 (NASB95) 18You have ascended on high, You have led captive Your captives; You have received gifts among men, Even among the rebellious also, that the Lord God may dwell there. When unbelievers die now, their souls immediately go to Hades, the lower part of the earth as before the resurrection of Christ, the place of torment. All unbelievers souls will be united with their resurrection bodies and judged at the Great White throne judgment. They will then be thrown into the Lake of Fire, and be tormented forever and forever. Now when believers (Church age) die their souls will immediately go to Heaven and at the rapture, their souls will be united with their resurrection bodies and will they will go to heaven.
