Six workstreams outcomes associated with the Future Nurse and Midwife Programme Board

4 Workstream 1 1.1 Review evidence and guidance to identify skills and knowledge required by practice supervisors, practice assessors and academic assessors to support undergraduate and postgraduate nurse and midwife learners.  1.2. Review evidence, current preparation practices and ongoing support mechanisms to identify best practice to underpin preparation of new roles  1.3. Scope resources currently available to support preparation of new roles  1.4. Scope equivalency against regulatory requirements and preparation of other health and care registrants in their role of supervising and assessing students and identify their preparation needs.  1.5. Develop transitional arrangements for supervision and assessment in practice areas  1.6. Develop a national framework for identification, preparation and ongoing professional development of practice supervisors, practice assessors and academic assessors in Scotland  1.7. Develop a refreshed career and development pathway for practice education, aligned with transforming roles model. Some revisions to the originals workplan deliverable completion dates – some brought forward due to NMC Quality Assurance gateways. Dates now as follows- 1.1.Complete by December 2018 1.2.Complete by December 2018  1.3 Complete by May 2019  1.4 Complete by May 2019 1.5 Complete by May 2019 1.6 Complete by May 2019 1.7 Red colour as not yet commenced. Starts July Due for completion March 2020

6 Listening to our stakeholders – Key thoughts so far….
Future pre-registration programmes will prepare students for supervisor role We need suitably prepared practice supervisors and assessors (eLearning module/s, time commitment, linked to appraisal & revalidation) Challenges of - lone practitioners as supervisors - practice assessors and 'sufficient opportunity'/direct observation/ time out from practice for role/ensuring interrater reliability of assessment Need guiding principles for assessors and any framework developed should have guidance not rigidity Keep robust systems that support the management of the underperforming student. Don

7 Workstream 2 2.1.Establish quality management of the practice learning environment (QMPLE) system with reporting function in all HEIs (including OU), Boards and care homes (where students are placed). 2.2.Develop a student feedback score, derived from QMPLE, as one of the quality measures for Excellence in Care. 2.3.Update Quality Standards for Practice Placement (QSPP) 2.4.Scope NM range of practice learning experiences and placement capacity across Scotland with an implementation plan of findings/recommendations In progress Last SLWG meeting 9th November Testing phase 1st Meeting 10th December 2.3 Red colour as not yet commenced. 8 Workstream 3 3.1 Agree on selected topics and establish specific networks with contribution from education, practice and topic experts 3.2 Scope existing national resources 3.3 Work with NMC and Midwifery Education Group to develop standards and participate in consultation of draft standards for new Midwifery Programme. 9 Workstream 4  4.2 Scoping of Clinical Simulation mapping access and routes of access to centres of excellence and who can use them 4.1 Refresh existing national approaches memorandums of agreement for practice placements between HEIs and Health boards raising concerns in practice student guidance QMPLE student feedback tool practice assessment document (previously ongoing achievement record) Equity of Student IT Access and patient information Green colour are completed deliverables memorandums of agreement for practice placements between HEIs and Health Boards - completed raising concerns in practice student guidance - completed – will require terminology change QMPLE student feedback tool – completed. The sessions will provide an opportunity to scope current good practice and ensure all stakeholders are able to contribute to the development of national principles for Scotland in implementing and transitioning these standards.
