4 Standard Revision Looking to align our standards closer to the national standards. Learning Outcomes are going to be anchors to the standards for each grade level. Most of the learning outcomes are designated from the HECAT toolkit for health and the PECAT toolkit for physical education.

5 HECAT- Health Education Curriculum Analyst Tool
HECAT provides guidance, appraisal tools, and resources for carrying out a clear, complete, and consistent examination of an existing curriculum, a commercially packaged or locally developed school-based health education curricula. The HECAT builds on the characteristics of effective health education curricula and the National Health Education Standards for schools. HECAT draws upon a synthesis of research and findings of CDC guidelines for school health programs.

6 HECAT- Intended Users HECAT is designed to be used by those who select, develop or use school health education curricula and for those who are interested in improving school health education curricula. Those interested can use HECAT in the development of new or improved courses of study, learning objectives, or curricula OR: State health education standards or frameworks Recommended for conducting state or local curricula review

7 HECAT- Organization Chapter 1- Instructions- Step-by-step guidance for conducting HE curriculum review Chapter 2- General Curriculum Information Chapter 3- Overall Summary Forms Chapter 4- Preliminary Curriculum Considerations Chapter 5- Curriculum Fundamentals Chapter 6- Health Topic Modules- Alcohol and Other Drugs, Healthy Eating, Mental and Emotional Health, Personal Health and Wellness, Physical Activity, Safety and Injury Prevention, Sexual Health, Tobacco, Violence Prevention

8 Health Content AND Skills are to be assessed
Health Skills- students will need to demonstrate proficiency in the following: Accessing Information Analyzing Influences Decision-Making Goal-Setting Interpersonal Communication Self-Management Advocacy

9

10 Health and Physical Education Benchmarks:
Learning outcomes for content and skills are listed for each grade but students are required to demonstrate the skills by each benchmark grade 3, 6, 9, and 12th

11 Examples of learning outcomes and benchmarks for health education The following is a sample of PreK-2 learning outcomes for the topic Personal Health.

12 Core Concepts Describe the relationship between healthy behaviors and personal health. Identify examples of emotional, intellectual, physical, and social health. Describe ways in which safe and healthy school and community environments can promote personal health. 13 Physical Education Curriculum Analyst Tool- PECAT
The Physical Education Curriculum Analysis Tool (PECAT) is a self-assessment and planning guide developed by CDC. It is designed to help school districts and schools conduct clear, complete, and consistent analyses of physical education curricula, based upon national physical education standards. Specifically, the PECAT Assesses how closely physical education curricula align with national standards for high quality physical education programs Analyzes content and student assessment components of a curriculum that correspond to national standards for physical education Helps school districts or individual schools identify changes needed in locally developed curricula

14 Tried to accomplish the following:
User friendly – access information Easier to understand Make as concise as possible Remove outcomes that serve no purpose or no purpose at a particular grade level. Develop helpful and appropriate resources Provide a comprehensive glossary

15 Examples of learning outcomes for physical education
PA Standard 3 (Not finalized) The physically literate individual demonstrates the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness. SHAPE Outcomes PA Edits Grade 6 Physical Activity Knowledge Is able to identify three influences on physical activity (e.g., school, family and peers; community and built environment; policy).
