2 What were the Spanish purposes for and methods of settlement?
Lay claim to Texas for Spain…more land, more power Convert the Natives to a brand of Christianity called Catholicism Spread Spanish culture (customs, language, etc.) Method Build missions, presidios, towns, and ranches to secure land from enemies

3 What were the Mexican purposes for and methods of settlement?
Increase population in Northern Mexico (Coahuila y Tejas) Provide new economic opportunities/profits for Mexico Method Empresario grants Support towns financially Encourage establishment of large cattle ranches and small businesses

4 What were the Anglo purposes for and methods of settlement?
