2. The Kansas City Royals have earned their first World Series title in 30 years, staging a dramatic Game 5 comeback to beat the New York Mets 7-2. They took home the series 4 games to 1. It's the team's first title since 1985 — and only the second in franchise history. The final game featured a stunning extra-innings turnaround. It started as a pitchers' duel: The Mets' Matt Harvey against Kansas City's Edinson Volquez. The 12-inning game started Sunday evening In New York and stretched into early Monday. The Royals blew open the game with five runs in the 12th inning. For the second time in the series, the Mets and the Royals had to go extra innings to settle things. Game 1 had gone on for 14 innings, the longest Game 1 in World Series history. This was also the first World Series with multiple extra-inning games since Catcher Salvador Perez of the Royals was voted most valuable player.

Chipotle has temporarily closed dozens of its restaurants in Washington and Oregon out of an abundance of caution after an E. coli scare. No one has died in the reported cases of infection, the Washington State Department of Health said. Seven of the Washington patients and one Oregon patient were hospitalized. The source of contamination has yet to be exactly determined, the department said, but 19 cases in Washington and three cases in Oregon have been linked to a handful of locations of the Mexican-themed restaurant chain.
Peyton Manning may be having his worst season in a long time, but the legendary quarterback is doing enough for the Denver Broncos to win games and rank among the best teams in the NFL. Manning's latest victory, a win over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, puts him at 186 wins for his epic career, matching Brett Favre for the most wins by a QB in league history.   
He had a formidable presence both on the U.S. Senate floor and the movie screen. Now family and friends from Washington to Hollywood are mourning the death of Fred Thompson. The former senator and actor died after a recurrence of lymphoma, his family said in a statement Sunday. He was 73 years old.
