8 Tips for meeting with legislators
Keep your conversation focused on your unified request(s) and stay on message; Develop one personal story about each issue; Don’t assume the Legislator knows about your field or the legislation you came to discuss Explain your role Avoid acronyms Gather materials (“leave behind documents”) to leave with your lawmakers; Remain flexible (location and length of the meeting) and friendly; Show appreciation for staff; Leave any partisan politics at the door. If you don’t know the answer to a question simply say so (and note the specific question on your feedback); Conclude the meeting with a clear restatement of your unified request.

9 Thank you!
