As to the technical description of products, each article is characterised by a given number of attributes, e.g. weight, dimensions, material, electrical characteristics, tightness, etc… In the present situation, the manufacturer and the supplier are giving us a number of these attributes, documented their way, which we have to key-in in our information systems. This operation (fresh keying-in or updating) results in a heavy annual cost to each of our 2 Groups, for a very limited benefit: - keying-in errors, as already mentioned, - missing or non-effected updates, - non consistent data. As a consequence, equivalence checks or inter-changeability of articles are very difficult. Source: PSA Peugeot/Citroen

The necessity is to have for each elementary family of products, a definition of all the minimum necessary attributes, valid for all, under a consensus method. This is what we call the product data sheet for a family, or dictionary, e.g.: - shafts, - motor shafts, - asynchrony motors, - air jacks, - hydraulic drives, - vicinity electronic detectors. A product data sheet or dictionary is therefore a compendium of attributes or data fields, if possible expressed in a standardised way. The data in the fields must in addition be standardised. Information is everywhere the same (content and form) All business partner deliver standardized properties supporting all business-processes covering the whole product lifecycle Source: PSA Peugeot/Citroen
