- colonists reaction to the Glorious Revolution * increased trade opportunities * military protection * political stability in England (liberal monarch, English Bill of Rights) * salutary neglect! War Breaks out in Europe (and spreads to the colonies…) - King William’s War (1689) - Queen Anne’s War (1702) - King George’s War (1743) - at this point the colonists were used to war –it had been going on for over 20 years - Britain’s war debt started to increase

2 King George I and II - both kept peace in England and colonies for awhile - wanted to strengthen the political and economic life of England - Molasses Act (1733) * under salutary neglect the colonists had started to trade with the French West Indies for molasses * Parliament passed this act to place a tax on the molasses to keep the colonists from trading * hoped to force colonists to buy British molasses, didn’t really work

3 * Parliament passed this act in order to stop colonial banks from
- Currency Act (1751) * Parliament passed this act in order to stop colonial banks from printing money * these new policies irritated the colonists, but they mostly ignored them
