ANATTA There is no self in Buddhism. We are just an ever-changing combination of the 5 Skandhas (sanskrit); upadana khandha (pali). These are:- 1. Body – rupa 2. Sensation – vedana 3. Perception – sanna 4. Mental phenomena – sankhara 5. Consciousness - vinnana

ANATTA Body – The physical frame of us comprising the 4 great elements:- Solidity Fluidity Heat Motion

ANATTA Sensations – These can be picked up in six ways:- Eye – visible
Ear – sounds Nose – odour Tongue – taste Body – tangible objects Mind – thoughts and ideas

ANATTA Perceptions – when we pick up these sensations, we recognise whether objects are physical or mental These then produce reactions in us

ANATTA Mental phenomena – sometimes called ‘formations by Buddhists mean that all volitional acts, both good and bad, result in Kamma (Karma) These might include our notions, longings, ideals and moods In Buddhism, it is said there are 52 mental activities all producing Kamma

ANATTA Consciousness – This is the accumulative element which collects the mental formations and is influenced or created by them. This is the main connecting link to Rebirth
