3 New for 2018 - 2019 Late Activity Bus Bulldog Athletic Complex
Bus will depart GCHS at 6:00 PM taking students to 4 quadrants in our attendance zone – central, east, south and north During the fall and spring seasons the bus will depart from GCHS and then proceed to the Bulldog Athletic Complex to pick up students and then continue their route Bus stop locations can be found on the Grant Bulldogs Website Parents Transportation Activity Buses Bulldog Athletic Complex Teams practicing at the Bulldog Athletic Complex – buses will depart at 3:20 PM and 3:40 PM

5 Grant and D124 Expectations
All student athletes must be cleared by the Athletic Office in order to tryout or practice To be cleared a student athlete must: Have a current physical on file Complete all necessary paperwork – Agreement to Participate Form, Athletic Emergency Medical Information Form (Seasonal) Have passed the equivalent of 5 classes the previous semester Be cleared from all previous athletic obligations Have paid the Participation Fee by December 3, 2018

6 grant and D124 Expectations
To remain eligible during each season a student athlete must: Adhere to the Grant Community High School Extra Curricular and Athletic Code of Conduct Scholastics – passing 5 classes on a weekly basis Age – no older than 19 at the start of the season Drugs, Chemicals, Alcohol and Tobacco Policy – in effect for 12 months Exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, behavior and fair play Athletic Transportation Policy Adhere to all Coach and Sport specific Team Rules and Regulations

7 IHSA Policies and Procedures
Align with Grant Community High School and D124 Policies and Procedures Sophomore, Junior or Senior and new to Grant High School must complete transfer paperwork Concussion Protocol Return to Play Return to Learn

8 Academic Progress and Assistance
Skyward Parent and Student Portal Used to monitor student progress Student athletes can obtain academic assistance the following ways: Meeting with their teacher before or after school Team Time – Conference with your teacher or attend an academic lab Tutoring Labs – Math and English Open during school hours and all lunch hours English lab is open before or after school National Honor Society Tutors are available

11 Scheduling Schedules are fluid and can change at anytime
Practices and games/contests are scheduled six days a week from the first day of practice through the IHSA State Series at the conclusion of the season. Student athletes are excepted to attend all practices and games/contests.

12 Communication Expectations
From the Coach His/Her philosophy Expectations and Goals for the student athlete and the team Locations and times for all practices and contests Team requirements – equipment, fees, training Procedure and protocol should the student athlete be injured during participation

13 Communication Expectations
From the Athletes / Parents Concerns expressed directly to the coach should come from the athlete first and then the parents Notification of any schedule conflicts in advance Notification of illness or injury as soon as possible Specific concerns in regard to a coach’s philosophy and / or expectation

Appropriate concerns to discuss with coaches: The treatment of student athletes Ways for the student athlete to improve Concerns about the student athletes’ behavior and/or attitude Inappropriate concerns to discuss with the coaches: Playing time Team strategy Play calling Other student athletes

15 Communication Expectations
If you have a concern to discuss with a coach, this procedure must be followed: Student athlete addresses the concern with their coach If concern is unresolved: Call the school office to set up an appointment with the coach, parent and student athlete If the coach cannot be reached contact the athletic office and we will set up a meeting time PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CONFRONT A COACH BEFORE OR AFTER PRACTICE OR WITHIN TWENTY- FOUR HOURS AFTER A CONTEST. THESE CAN BE EMOTIONAL TIMES FOR ALL INVOLVED. Meetings of this nature do not promote resolution.

16 Communication Expectations
If you feel the meeting with the coach did not provide enough information or a satisfactory solution, please: Call the Athletic Office to set up an appointment with Tom Ross, Athletic Director and the coach / head coach, parents and student athlete

17 Communication Expectations
The Athletic Department is striving to make our program better and safer. Therefore, we will not Recognize anonymous calls and / or letters, if we do not know who you are it’s difficult to address your concerns The athletic department will NOT mistreat a student athlete because of a parent concern

18 GRANT Athletics Varsity Athletic Locker Rooms All varsity athletes will receive an athletic locker in the athletic locker rooms – student athletes will receive a lock and will need to turn it in at the end of the season or they will be charged. PLEASE BE SURE TO LOCK YOUR LOCKER AT ALL TIMES. Athletic lockers are for in-season use only

19 GRANT Athletics Athletic uniforms and equipment will be issued by the coach and must be returned at the end of the season. Failure to turn in a uniform and any equipment will result in an athletic obligation. All injured student athletes MUST report the injury to the athletic trainers, Mark Robson or Georgina Govostis, within 24 hours of the injury, preferably as soon as the injury occurs for both home and away contests and practices. To practice each day or play in a contest on that day the student athlete MUST participate in physical education class, if enrolled, and may not leave school during the day. A student athlete that arrives late to school will have their eligibility decided by the athletic director. Student athletes who are absent from school for reasons other than illness, will have their eligibility left to the discretion of the administration.

20 Important Booster Club Information
Each year the Booster Club gives back to the students of Grant Community High School over $43,000 directly back to the students of Grant Community High School. The Booster Club also awards four $1,000 scholarships each year. Become involved with the Booster Club – Direct return to the students at Grant Community High School Join the Booster Club Volunteer to work in the concession stand Become a Booster Team parent Visit the concession stand during a game or match
