2 George Orwell Born Eric Blair in India in 1903
He attended private schools, but resented the oppression he felt the administration of boarding schools inflicted on their students' lives. Blair decided to forgo college, and instead joined the British Imperial Police force in Burma. Orwell disliked his duties, and hated the government he was upholding, and when his health began to fail (he faced medical issues his whole life), he left Burma to convalesce in England.

3 Political Opinions Orwell spent time amongst the very poor in London, and later with destitute coal miners in norther England. These experiences turned him against capitalism in favor of democratic socialism. In 1936, Orwell went to Spain to report on the Spanish Civil War where he witnessed atrocities committed by totalitarian governments.

4 Works Orwell dedicated his writing efforts to writing politically charged novels that displayed his hatred of fascist governments. He wrote Animal Farm in 1945, and 1984 in

Educating the masses can be dangerous. Where you're born is where you stay. Power is not a means; it's an end. Reality is merely perception. If the government tells you the sky is red, it's red.

Our government should have a big role in our lives. Technological innovation is a good thing. Surveillance only protects people. If you take a person’s language and verbal skills away, you are also taking a person’s thoughts and ideas away.
