2 FIG. 1 Phylogenetic analyses were conducted using DNAStar (clustal and megalign) software. (a) Six Sudanese rubella virus (RV) strains (bold italics) investigated in this study were compared with the WHO reference strains based on the 280nt region of the E1 gene [13]. GenBank accession numbers with assigned genotypes are indicated at the end [16]. The -positive control (Thoma-lab) was included. (b) Two RV strains isolated in Sudan (bold italics) were compared with the WHO reference strains and the RV strains (shown with Genbank numbers) previously detected in Africa based on the 739nt region of the E1 gene. The sequence length is indicated at the end of the strain if the full length window of 739 nt was not available. Circled isolates/strains refer to viruses detected in the same country, e.g. Ethiopia, Morocco and Africa.
