1. Vocabulary Project

2. Every semester you will be required to complete a vocabulary project on your own. You will have several different options on which project you want to complete. The vocabulary words will come from all of the reading selections we read in class. You will keep a list of words and definitions in the back of your journal that you will be required to update as we read.
Each project will have a due
date and a rubric assigned.

4. Creative Story
Create a short story using 5 of your vocabulary words in the correct context. Your story must be original and include lots of detail. It needs to be 2 full pages, typed, double spaced, 12 point font. Bold and
underline each vocabulary word
you use.

5. Quotes
Find quotes from famous people that have your vocabulary word in them. You must find at least 5 quotes. You must have the entire quote with the vocabulary word highlighted/underlined. Your quote also must contain the speaker’s name
(no anonymous quotes). You will
also explain the quote in your
own words. (when was said,
what were they talking
about, etc…)

6. Illustrated Vocabulary
You will select 5 vocabulary words to illustrate and dissect. Students will divide the word into into prefix, root, and suffix— and find the meaning of each part. Students will then appropriately illustrate the word. *The vocabulary words you select MUST have more than one part (they must have a prefix and/or a suffix).

7. Collage a Word
Making a word collage is a creative way to enjoy a word. Place a drawing or a printed form of the word in the center and make a collage using the synonyms and meanings you found in your word research. Choose images that explain the word and
represent all of the word’s meanings.
You will need to select 5
vocabulary words. Each
vocabulary word collage
must have a minimum of 6 words or graphics.

8. EXAMPLE: Collage a Word

9. Real World in Current Events
Students will read newspapers and magazines to locate 5 vocabulary words. (You cannot use digital resources for this choice.) You will cut out the sentence and highlight the vocabulary word in context. You must display the sentence and definition on a creative project. Words must be used in the context we study.
