1 NHL Statistics Jonathan maratta

2 Introduction My dataset takes a look into the top 250 best players in the season I chose to look at the top 50 as they are mostly household names The main point I wanted to focus on was efficiency I separated the players by position and age

3 Ages I made a new copy of the data and took out everything besides age, goals, assists, and total points I put the data into a table in order to set by lowest to largest I built a table for the totals for each of the ages The problem with this is that an age like 18 only has one player where 26 has 5

4 Offense Right Wing For all 3 of the positions I made the data into a table I made the stats for the goals, assists, shots, hits and time on ice into a table per game

5 Offensive charts Centers Left Wing

6 Defense Player hits shots assists goals TOI Victor Hedman 1.18 2.10
0.71 0.20 24.51 Erik Karlsson 0.87 2.83 0.70 0.22 26.83 Brent Burns 0.84 3.90 0.57 0.35 24.87 Kevin Shattenkirk 1.10 2.01 0.54 0.16 19.94 Duncan Keith 0.30 2.29 0.59 0.08 25.61 Dustin Byfuglien 3.01 0.49 27.45 Justin Schultz 0.86 1.97 0.50 0.15 20.45 Torey Krug 0.73 2.57 0.53 0.10 21.60 Dougie Hamilton 2.74 0.46 19.68 John Klingberg 1.55 0.45 23.35 Roman Josi 0.75 0.51 0.17 25.07 Alex Pietrangelo 0.48 2.26 0.43 0.18 25.29 Zach Werenski 2.41 0.14 20.91 Defense The defensive players had a much smaller amount of players in the top 50 compared to their offensive counterparts I added the next 10 best defensemen to have a more equal number of players I removed the categories that tracked faceoffs Like in the offensive categories I made the stats for the goals, assists, shots, hits and time on ice into a table per game into a separate table

7 Totals Centers stats Hits Shots Assists Goals Time on Ice 0.78 2.56
0.54 0.33 18.79 Left Wing Stats 0.75 2.82 0.47 0.36 18.24 Right Wing Stats 0.66 3.10 0.51 0.38 18.93 Defense Stats 0.87 2.51 0.53 0.17 23.50 Totals This tab is used to compare the stats per game for all position I built a table for the average of all the players in each positions

8 Conclusion I found that I was wrong in my initial estimate in which position would be the most effective Centers would seem to be the obvious answer but through the top 50 it turns out the Right Wing led averages in 4/5 categories No surprise the defensemen were the least effective but they led 2/5 categories
