Competition: Technologies Mechanical: Lever arm linked to the switch mechanism Solid State: Electrically created magnetic field measures change in magnetic field to trip switch Reed: Glass encapsulated switch mechanism tripped by a magnetic target GO is a hybrid technology that combines the advantages of each of the above with none of their drawbacks

Competition: Limit Switch A Limit Switch is an electrical mechanical device that that provides an electrical signal through a set of contacts. –When the object to be sensed comes in contact with an actuator, this mechanical motion closes (makes) or opens (breaks) a set of contacts Limit Switches are often applied because –They do not require external power –Have a very wide voltage and current range –Do not have leakage current –Have a higher temperature range than solid state sensors Disadvantages –Require contact with object to be sensed –Limited sensing distance –Mechanical wear

Competition: Mechanical Limit Switches Lever arms bend, break and wear –Some require up to 32 in lbs to operate –GO is proximity - no contact, wear, torque Multiple moving parts to fail: –Lever arms, rollers, springs, gears –GO has only one moving part - no metal to metal contact making it move Hole(s) with gaskets invite moisture and dust –GO is completely potted and sealed

Competition: Mechanical Limit Switches Moisture problems are common: –Contact chamber not potted –Gasket dries, cracks, and fails –GO is completely potted and sealed Repeatability is poor - lever stroke varies –GO is repeatable to 0.002 for life Maintenance headache –GO is maintenance free

Competition: Proximity Switches Traditional prox switches are solid state devices. They use inductive sensing technology to detect the presence of absence of a metallic target Many shapes and sizes –Square, rectangular, cylindrical, puck, etc Can be very small Works better in tough environments as compared to Photoelectrics and Limit Switches Low cost

Competition: Inductive Proximity Sensors Solid state - consumes power to operate –GO is dry contact - consumes no power Two piece construction is fragile –GO is one piece stainless or brass Must stock 4 models for AC, DC, NO, NC –GO - one model does it all Not explosion proof –GO is Class I Div I all groups

Competition: Inductive Proximity Sensors IS barrier brand sensitive –GO is simple device - use any barrier –GO hermetic seal is Non-Incendive Temperature sensitive - sensing varies –GO to 400 o F with stable sensing Many wiring precautions –GO handles high loads - no voltage drop or current leakage - series or parallel

Competition: Reed Switches A Reed Switch consists of two magnetic contacts when approached by a target magnet, attract each other and close a circuit. Contacts are contained in a gas filled glass tube Can be packaged in many different sized enclosures Designed to switch lower currents and can not handle high current loads

Competition: Reed Switches Switch mechanism often unreliable –GO is proven to 100s of millions of cycles Susceptible to vibration and bounce –GO contact pressure is much greater Glass tube hermetic seal is fragile –GO herm seal is virtually unbreakable Require magnet to operate –GO needs only ferrous metal

GO Switch Square - 10/20 Series The original Leverless Limit Switch –Invented in 1950s by CR Marcum –Workhorse of the industry Same operating principle today –Simple but very clever –Materials upgraded through the years

10/20 Series - How it Works Operated When a ferrous target enters the sensing area of the switch, it diverts flux lines from the armature to create a magnetic dominance on the opposite side. As a result, the armature snaps to its operated position, closing the other contact circuit. When the target is removed the armature snaps back to its original, unoperated position. Unoperated On the sensing side of the switch, one magnet is positioned closer to the armature, creating a dominant magnetic flux field which draws the armature down to its unoperated position, closing a contact circuit.

1. Seesaw armature provides snap action and solid contact pressure, eliminating contact teasing and contact chatter in high vibration applications. 2. Versatile gold flashed contacts are suitable for high and low electrical loads, and can be wired AC or DC, N/O or N/C. 3. Sealed contact chamber prevents moisture or dust from reaching the contacts. 4. Side sensing range can be extended to nearly 4 using external target magnets. 5. Permanent magnets never lose their strength, even when mounted on ferrous metal. 6. Rugged brass or stainless steel housing withstands physical abuse, moisture, and corrosives. 7. Multiple wiring options: -Terminal Block -Lead Wires -Cable-Quick Disconnects 8. Potting fills the entire switch cavity, forming a barrier against moisture. 9. Conduit hub can be located in any of 5 positions for versatile installation. 10. Consumes no power to operate and has no current leakage or voltage drop. A look inside…

GO Switch Square - 10/20 Series Two magnet design –Magnetic bias with see-saw armature 3/8 Side, 9/16 Extend (10), 3 3/16 Max SPDT, DMDB, Latching –10A/120Vac, 3A/24Vdc –Silver cadmium oxide, gold flashed Hi Temp to 350 o F (10) UL, CSA, FM, SAA, MSHA 5 conduit positions

80 Series - How it Works Unoperated The armature is positioned off-center of the magnet, creating a dominant magnetic flux field on the sensing end of the switch which draws the armature down to its unoperated position, closing a contact circuit. Operated When a ferrous target enters the sensing area of the switch, it diverts flux lines from the armature to create a magnetic dominance on the opposite side. As a result, the armature snaps to its operated position, closing the other contact circuit. When the target is removed the armature snaps back to its original, unoperated position.

A look inside… 1. Seesaw armature provides snap action and solid contact pressure, eliminating contact teasing and contact chatter in high vibration applications. 2. End sensing range can be extended to nearly 4" using external target magnets. 3. Permanent magnets never lose their strength, even when mounted on ferrous metal. 4. Sealed contact chamber prevents moisture or dust from reaching the contacts. 5. Potting fills the entire switch cavity, forming a barrier against moisture. 6. Versatile gold flashed contacts are suitable for high and low electrical loads, and can be wired AC or DC, N/O or N/C. 7. Brass, stainless steel or copper housing withstands physical abuse, moisture, and corrosives. 8. Conduit outlet on bottom of housing for versatile installation. 9. Multiple wiring options: Terminal Block Lead Wires Cable Quick Disconnect 10. Consumes no power to operate and has no current leakage or voltage drop.

GO Switch Square - 35 Series One magnet design –Magnetic bias with see-saw armature SPDT –4 amp/120Vac, 3 amp/24Vdc Hermetic seal

70 Series - How it Works Unoperated The center magnet simultaneously attracts the primary magnet and repels the bias magnet, pushing the connecting rod backward. As a result, the common contact rests in its unoperated position, closing a contact circuit. Operated When a ferrous target enters the sensing area of the switch, it attracts the primary magnet, which pulls the connecting rod forward. As a result, the common contact snaps to its operated position, closing the other contact circuit. When the target is removed the common contact snaps back to its original, unoperated position.

A look inside… 1. Permanent magnets never lose their strength, even when threaded into ferrous metal. 2. End sensing range can be extended using external target magnets. 3.
