1 Top tips for preparing for your Maths mocks and GCSEs

2 Data handling (statistics)
Year 11 Mocks Nov 2018 Maths 2 x full calculator papers 1 hour 30 minutes each 80 marks each Any content in any paper Geometry Perimeter, area, surface area, volume, symmetry, triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, regular shapes, similar and congruent shapes, units, speed and density, measures, angles and all angle facts, trigonometry and Pythagoras. Data handling (statistics) Averages, diagrams eg bar charts, pie charts, boxplots, cf curves. Probability tree diagrams, Venn diagrams and set notation

3 Year 11 Mocks Nov 2018 More maths Number
Fractions, decimals, percentages, percentage change and rates, standard form, surds, indices (powers) and power laws, all arithmetic, real life problem solving, integers, estimating, factors, multiples, prime factor trees. Ratio and proportion Write ratios, understand link between ratio and fractions, share in a ratio, proportional change, fractions, decimals and percentages, interest rates, solving proportion problems eg best buy, exchange rates Algebra Simply, substitute, solve, expand, factorise, linear, quadratic, plot graphs, coordinates and graph equations, solve simultaneous equations, proof, real life graphs.

4 Use your half term paper PLC to target revision
Top Tip 1: Use your half term paper PLC to target revision Hot Topics Things about them Arithmetic ( + - x ÷ ) Convert between FDP Write one number as a proportion of another Find percentages of amounts Ratios (write them, scaling ratios, sharing in, difference in) Real life questions eg best buy, scaling recipes, money, interest rates (percentages), exchange rates FDP Ratio and proportion Your teacher will guide your revision but remember MyMaths Dr Frost Kerboodle text and hw books Firefly content OnMaths videos on YouTube

5 Top Tip 2: Memorise the formulae for areas and volume, the quadratic formula and trigonometry These are on Firefly for both foundation and higher tier The topic lists (what you have learnt) are also on Firefly and the school website

6 Top Tip 3: Underline key words in questions if you are mot sure what the question wants you to do To focus your attention If still unsure, take an ‘educated’ guess from previous experience Write an answer

7 Top Tip 4: Show all your working out
Most marks are for the working out shown NOT the correct answer They want to see your method and setting out so make it easy to get these marks

8 Top Tip 5: Don’t panic! Take it day-by-day Do a bit every day Mocks are there to help you practise and help us know how to support you

9 Top Tip 1: Use your Half term Paper PLC to target your revision Top Tip 2: Memorise the formulae for areas and volume, the quadratic formula and trigonometry Top Tip 3: Underline key words in questions if you are confused Top Tip 4: Show all your working out Top Tip 5: Don’t panic – little by little
