4 Introduction The Aerospatiale-BAC Concorde was a turbojet powered supersonic passenger airliner. It was a product of an Anglo-French government treaty, combining the manufacturing efforts of Aerospatiale and the British Aircraft Corporation. First flown in 2nd March 1969, Concorde entered service in 1976 and continued commercial flights for 27 years.

9 PERFORMANCE Maximum speed: Mach 2.04[230] (≈1,350 mph, 2,172 km/h) at cruise altitude Cruise speed: Mach 2.02 (≈1,320 mph, 2,124 km/h) at cruise altitude Range: 3,900 nmi (4,500 mi, 7,250 km) Service ceiling: 60,000 ft (18,300 m) Rate of climb: 5,000 ft/min (25.41 m/s) Fuel consumption: 13.2 kg/km Maximum nose tip temperature: 260 °F (127 °C)

10 THE FLEET 20 Concordes were built between 1966 and 1979
14 aircrafts were in operation 2 prototype models 2 pre-production models 2 first off the line production models British Airways have a fleet of 7 aircrafts while Air France had 5 aircrafts The BA Concordes had nearly 150,000 hours of flight time so far, which equates to roughly 52,000 flights, while AF have over 105,000 hours of flight time

11 OPEERATORS Air France British Airways
Braniff International Airways (short term lease) Singapore Airlines (short term wet lease)

12 British Airways Concord: 204, 206, 208, 120, 212, 214 & 216

13 Air France Air France Concord : 203, 105, 207, 209, 211, 213,& 215 *

14 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Runway: 10,000 feet for successful take off
Servicing: When Concorde was standing on its nose and main landing gears, there could be an over-concentration of weight in the rear of the aircraft which was due to the displacement of on-board fuel, personnel and equipment

15 Air-conditioning: During all times while the ground engineers had the electrical ground power unit connected to the aircraft, the air extraction system had to be operated.

16 Fuel Consumption A-380: 2.9 lit/pax/100 km
B : 3.1 lit/pax/100 km Concord: 16.6 lit/pax/100km

17 Concorde Crash On 25 July 2000, Air France Flight crashed
Killing all 100 passengers and 9 crew members on board the flight, and 4 people on the ground caused by a titanium strip that fell from a Continental Airlines DC-10 punctured a tyre during take off, the tyre exploded, a piece of rubber hit the fuel tank this caused a major fuel leak from the tank, which then ignited due to sparking electrical landing gear

18 END OF CONCORDE ERA AF - Last flight on 30th March 2003
BA - Last flight on 26th November 2003

19 REASONS WHICH CAUSED SHUT DOWN OF A-ICON
Oil Crisis High Cost of Maintenance/Operation Air and Noise Pollution Shattering of windows on ground

20 Damage to Hearing. Danger to Animal Life. Passenger Unrest and Inconvenience. Blow of the engine causes debris to bounce.

21 Competitors Tu-144 Boeing-2701 Lockheed L-2000
First flight: 31 December 1968 Introduction: 26 December 1975 Retired : 1 June 1978 (1999 in operation with NASA) Cruise Speed: 2Mach Boeing-2701 Cancelled 2.7 Mach Lockheed L-2000 3 Mach

22 FUTURE Zero Emission Hyper Sonic Transport
Unveiled on 18th June 2011 by EADS at Le Bourget air show Expected to travel at 4 Mach with 100 passengers Expected introduction in service by 2050
